Archer tips?
Since my game glitched out on the archer tutorial, I missed all of it. So...
-how do I use the arrow cam?
-tips for aiming?
-anything I should know?

Arrow cam is middle mouse. Aiming means knowing your projectile's travel speed and drop over distance, and that can only come with practice. Stick with a bow you like and learn it well.

Also, don't be afraid to help out in nearby melee- you can do a lot more good than standing six feet away and shooting!

As for everything else, if you want to use the manliest of bows, read my shamelessly promoted guide:

If you're in the EU, try joining one of the Sneaky Monkeys servers and if I'm there, I'll happily give you a few more pointers.

Thanks, but I'm in the US. Thanks for the tips.

Practice makes perfect, get good at melee, archer melee is the best in game, nothing will beat you. No joke.

Melee is entirely skill-based. Archer is an MAA with no dodge and less damage, so you can't really say he's the best. Knights and vans both have wepaons of equal speed but higher damage, so you can't say he outclasses them, either.

Good melee archers just have to get very good- it's either that, or die.

After a 1000 hrs I can safely say that you can be semi skilled in melee, use archer, and will win most engagements against equal to more skilled players, its not a matter of damage or reach or even skill, its simply the combination of how fast they are, and when used correctly is extremely tough to counter.

As someone with 3,700 hours spread across a few accounts since this gaem released I can confirm what Baine is saying, and in most cases an archer will get a shot on you before you EVEN REACH THEM in which case they will (almost always) only need one stab from shortsword or saber to finish you (dont forget that x50% damage buff either it is so buggy you often times can two shot a full health van with two stabs to the front of the face.

Archer melee is absolutely ridiculous. Butterknives shouldn't be able to flinch a knight in full armour and block two-handed weapons. But, oh well, developers seem to do everything for some mystical "balance"...

P.S. This isn't even coming from one of the many melee players constantly whining how much they hate archers, in past months I've played mostly crossbowman myself.

achers have backstab damage which can be pretty esential in group fights

Not a matter of skill, but they're only tough to counter when used correctly? Erm...... you may have contradicted yourself there.

An archer has no distinct advantage over any other class in melee. Each of the others has secondary (or even primary) weapons of a similar speed with greater damage, and they all have higher damage resistance.

And mauls houldn't have an easy time parrying small, fast weapons.

If you want it to be the case that daggers can't parry heavier weapons, then you need to apply the same rule to every weapon.
Pretty soon, the game descends to everybody using maul knight as it's the heaviest weapon and only other mauls can parry it.

If archer was really as dominating in melee as many people seem to think, then everybody who played it would top the scoreboards every round. This is demonstrably not the case.

There are a few very good archers out there, and. like any other player who's good at a chosen class, they can be tough to deal with.

A good rule to follow is: the closer an archer is to the front line, the better he's likely to be.
You run into the bad, back row archers less frequently, and they're easy to kill. You run into decent, front-line archers more often, and they aren't.

You play almost 8 hours of Chivalry a day, every day, since launch? :O

On a side note, I love how every single 'help with archer please' thread turns into 'OMG archer so OP'. I think two posts before it starts is some kind of record.

Rule #1 - Don't. The game shines in its melee mechanics, don't waste it by playing it as though it's a regular FPS in a medieval skin. Alternatively, be a spearman, because then you'll be closer to the action and mix melee with ranged.

It also has fantastic ranged mechanics- and good archers make certain objectives much easier to attack or defend. My kills as archer are usually around 50/50 ranged and melee.

Or use the shortbow- it's just as good if you want to get really close. Again, good archers do get close to the action- it's only the bad ones who sit at the edge of the map.

Find a secondary you like, shortsword is usually the go to weapon for archer because its stab and all around awesomeness. Saber is a longer shortsword with more damage, and the cudgel is a knight killer.
