Since it's not a 1:1 rip-off i don't see any problem
Also you rob a warehouse not a pier, like you did in Merryweather.
I think Bain's reaction is universal, but it could be a nice little reference.
I have never said about that, I just wanted point out how very few people noticed reference for long time.
Oh yeah, I'm not trying to say you're accusing it of being a ripoff.
I mean one is blowing up a boat (forgot what the other option was but it wasn't entering a warehouse and shooting ♥♥♥♥) and the PD version is opening a Heatlock (? Is that a thing) and driving the ♥♥♥♥ around with a car. The "jab" with us not getting the loot isn't really a refference, as we don't get any loot for us (apart from cash, I mean we don't get the rifles we steal).
If it really is a refference though, it is probably the revenge to Trevor making fun of the PAYDAY gang (or "The Dark Knight") before the "Blitz Play" Heist ("Atleast we are not wearing Clown Masks")
If anything, I would say R* was inspired by Payday to create Merryweather. After all, Murkywater and Merryweather are sounding very similar.
