Is it worth doing Infamy?
as the title says, I'm at rank 100 and question if it's worth going through Imfamy.

Until you hit Infamy 5 you are in the early game. Most builds cannot be used before that, because the high tier skills are more expensiv to unlock.

The first five levels are essential. The rest is just cosmetics and XP boosts.
Depends.

Are you planning to either get 100% on achievements or play for extended length (say at least 300 hours)?

Then sure. It's worth it.

If you are just looking for the occasional game and don't care about playing on Death Sentence then no you should be fine with just 0-100. You'll probably have to host since lobbies these days kick non-Infamy players. But other than that you should be fine. Jules has been balancing DW for 0-100 anyways.

Unlock Achievments > Go Infamy 25.
Unlock Difficulty Mask > Go Infamy 5 because most meta builds require Infamy 4~5.
Just want to have fun > keep 100lv > Boring > Infamy

What is I have fun doing Infamies without wanting to unlock the masks or achievements?
All people say players only doing Infamies for masks or out of boredom.

The most time-consuming and fun part of payday 2 is creating useful builds like a chemical scientist who mixes many chemistry together for something new.

Are you talking about the 10% skill point reduction for each tree like it says in the Infamy menu? Because that's leftover text from the original skill tree system. Those currently do nothing in the current skill system, last time I checked. (I just went through my skill trees and double checked the point costs to make sure)

No, I'm pretty sure the Infamy levels still work like they did before. You normally need 18 points of investment to access T4 in each subtree, the Infamy levels cut it down to 16 required points.

Anyway, Infamy V is certainly worth it, it opens up more opportunities for build min-maxing. Beyond that it's all about if you want cool masks.

You need 18 points to reach tier 4 skills. 10% reduction is 1.8 points rounded up to 2 points. With the Infamy bonuses you need 16 instead of 18 points to reach the tier 4 skills at the top of a skill tree.
Its worth it but it gets annoying to make the builds over and over again. And i cant just make 1 build and grind levels with it, i need 5-6 different builds in order to keep myself entertained while grinding

and sometimes people use mods to infamy even more cuz they get bored.

Refer to my post in a different thread, as well as cooper's two posts later.

If you can't be bothered to click the link, here is a quoted version.

How do you gain Infamy? I checked this tab but I'm not eligible for anything apprently.
Firstly, you will need to be Reputation Level 100, and have at least 200 million money in your Offshore Account.

After infamy V (5), you will no longer need any money in spendable nor offshore to go infamous.

Everytime you go infamous, it will always require Reputation 100, and you need about 23 million experience in total to get from 0 to 100.

Infamy has its downsides and upsides, some of which, I will list below.
Upsides of Infamy
  • 5-10 per cent permanent experience bonus after completing a heist.
  • Cosmetics (masks, patterns, and so on)

  • Epic SFX everytime you go infamous, and it gets better the higher you are.

  • A roman numeral before your name, but in the same bracket as your Reputation Level.

Downsides of Infamy
  • For the first five infamy levels, it will cost 200 million offshore and the entirety of your spendable money. After that, it will not cost you a single cent. Cents don't even exist in PAYDAY, but whatever. :awkward:

  • You lose your reputation, but you can get 35-50 levels back in about 10 minutes from OD DS Diamond Store in Stealth, or you could do Crime Spree. A person named Salem got from 0-0 to 25-100 in 6 hours using ♥♥♥♥♥♥' Crime Spree, which is most likely why I don't use it.

  • The chance of being called a cheater increases the more known you are in the infamous community. Private profiles increase that chance by about 40%, and bringing "odd" builds to a particular heist will increase it by 30%.

A few tips

Once you have acquired 200 million offshore and Reputation 100, then I would highly suggest buying the most expensive weapon you can buy, usually being something like the Vulcan Minigun, as your weapons are kept after you prestige.

After you're reset back to Reputation 100, sell your weapons you bought. This should give you millions back, and that's all you need to start building up your reputation all over again.

You will not lose the following things upon going infamous BEFORE Infamy V.
  • Mask customizations. (Patterns, materials, and colors.)
  • Masks.
  • Weapons.
  • Weapon modifications. (Barrel Extensions, Ammuntion Type, Barrels, Grips, Scopes, etc.)
  • Unlocked perk decks, as well as its specific perk cards, if you haven't fully unlocked one.
  • Stealth bonus from the last heist. (3, 5, 7, 10, 15, 20, 25 per cent.)
  • Crime Spree progress.
  • Gage Packages. (Note that this requires the Gage Courier Packages DLC, which was loaded into the Ultimate Edition/UE in about July 2017, if I'm remembering correctly.)
  • Weapon Skins. These are controlled by your Steam Inventory, so they will not be removed from your Inventory unless you sell them on the Steam Community Market or trade them away.
  • DLC. (This is pretty self-explanatory.)
  • However, you MIGHT lose access to your Steam Community Profile. :awkward:

That's about as far as I can remember about infamy over my 2,500 hours clocked in and playing since about July 2016. Yeah, I know. Many other players have played in, like, 2013-2014, but I didn't find out about the game until I got in the aforementioned time period.

Go out there and keep those helmets flying. Good luck. May the most infamous criminal win!

Ahhhh, the tier unlock points. Alright, I see now. Now I feel smarter. Sorry about the mix up.

Yes - for the bonuses and the item unlocks but also because it is fun to have that (brief) challenge of a forced low level abilities and being locked out of items again for a while.
