Mods or Hacks?

So I've been 'trying' to play this game online, but every other teammate i play with does unusualy sh!t like killing everyone in a jiffy, fast fowarding the entire run and stuff like that.

I'm confused.

Is it modding? Are they hacking? Does VAC allow this? Is it something easy to do?
Some more information would be welcomed. Thanks.

If i understand right it appears to be desync

if they instantly kill all guards on map its hacking but if they instantly kill a few guards at a time then it could be desync (lag on either your or their end)

Nope. He also unlocked all vaults in a second on 'Bank heist'. Wasn't desync to be exact.
I later added him and he said it were mods. But how do they not get vac banned?

PAYDAY 2 does not use VAC as VAC is not meant for peer to peer conections but rather server based games. PAYDAY 2 depends on players as hosts to be their own anti-cheat. You decide what kind of mods you want in your game. Mods are 100% supported by Overkill until you get to the point where it is blatently cheasting (i.e. ending heists instantly, unlocking achivements at the push of a button, etc.)

VAC isn't a Valve only program. It's a program avadible to any developer really. It's just that PD2 can't use it because it is based on peer to peer conections.

Payday 2 doesn't run VAC, since VAC is meant for server-based games (which Payday 2 is not). As such, enabling anticheat is an option under "game options" if you are hosting a game that will detect and kick certain fishy acts and mods, such as DLC/skin unlockers and people acting outside the game's normal parameters (e.g. placing down a million medic bags and turrets, spawning items and carrying more than one bag at a time, modding a "god weapon" in).

However, that doesn't always catch cheaters, as I knew a couple people here and there who could use a wallhacks mod without it being detected (as a tame example). Most cheaters tend to instantly unlock all their achievements or give themselves every skill, so I would recommend trying out the mod NGBTO. It'll tell you whether someone's spent over 120 skill points, and it'll tell you how many hours they've played. If you suspect someone's cheating, check their profile: someone who's XXV-100 and has 20 hours is certainly cheating, and 100% achievements in <100 hours is a sure sign.

Cheats, not mos. There's no VAC.

In this game mods are often ways to STOP cheaters.

What's DeSync?

Desync is where the host and clients computers are experiencing a delay sharing information. Which can cause a delay in player movement, and some kills. It is usually most notable in stealth, but can happen in loud heists too, usually with a player being downed but still walking around(among other things)

That said, what you are experiencing is a cheater. "All cheats are mods but not all mods are cheats" is the boilerplate.

Payday 2 is not VAC enabled, and cannot be, without a major code rework, and killing the modding community. Some mods have actually been added to the base game over the years, and mods are the reason this game is still alive. It is up to the host and us, the community, to police their games to curtail cheating.

Finally, a cheater tag does not always mean a person is a cheater, due to false positives, but multiple infamies at the same time or killing all enemies, or insta winning a heist always does.

Desyncronisation, it's basically the game's format of network lag, it's not good to have.

Effects of Desync include:
-Not being able to revive downed players, as they won't appear downed on your end

-Being spotted in safe spots in stealth, or being spotted with a huge delay (spotted through walls/cover/etc), this is one of the main reasons people do stealth solo

-Players standing in one area for a long time, not taking damage, then zipping off at high speeds to where they actually are

- Players interacting with things before reaching them

I could go on, there's a reason the desync beta is a thing, people hate it THAT much

He is using cheats. I'd advise not playing with him as it could result in your achievements becoming "broken" and you getting banned as well.

Yup. Apparently tried to go out to play online. After a few hours playing offline with bots, to understand mechanics, maps etc...
Anyway. Went to the online game, since we start the heist, found 2 co players with huge red banner above their head. CHEATER. And is not the only time. There's a lot of them... What to do? If I'm exposed for ban playing with cheaters.... Should I go just offline? This sounds a bit stupid.
