Is the sentry gun useful on high difficulties?
I am now just below reputation level 50 and I spent around 30+ skill points towards that sentry gun and got jack-of-all-trades also.
My question is are the skill points spent towards the sentry gun upgrades in vain or are there some good use? I'm currently playing on Hard and I was wondering if it's useful in a coop game when I am playing say on Mayhem or Dead wish.

Also what would you recommend me to equip as my primary equipment (whereas the sentry gun would be in secondary)?

Or should I simply start over and skip the sentry gun skill tree entirely?

I also skilled some basic 1-skill-point skills such as medic, hostage takeover, silent drill, extra ammo pickup range and some others, that I cannot really remember now.

They are viable at One Down, but was extremely restraining & painful to be use due to the skill point investment & maintenance.

If youre deadset on using sentries,Id suggest you use weapons that have a high pickup rate. As you should know by now, sentries consume your ammo in order to be placed. Id also suggest picking up a medic bag(or ammo) as your secondary deployable, assuming youve aced Jack of all trades. Do note that sentries are particularly useful for protecting drills, saws, and other objectives. Another good use for them is a distraction,as enemies would focus on your turret, giving you an opportunity to eliminate them. Id also suggest checking out Connor Shaw's videos on deployables. Cheers and happy heisting :)

It is extemely situational and must be played smart with weapon of high pickup rate. You may also need to depends a lot on your bot/teammate especially the crowd is building is faster than the sentry can kill (this is especially true when two dozers show up at the same time on OD). Loud sentry can also be nice for distraction, but unless it is shielded and placed with its back facing the wall, it dies fairly quickly on OD

I would say they are good until overkill. On mayhem and above they are not so good

Theyre good to mayhem, assuming you can micro their HP pools effectively.

I don't play much Deathwish, can't say much there.

Pack a shotgun, they pick up ammo like a black friday mob cleans out a Walmart.

Flame grenades are good for large crowds that the sentries cant handle.

I packed a 5/7 AP for shields, but that may not be the best.

For a perk deck, i just used muscle, but im sure someone here is gonna say that's dumb and list another deck.

They are mainly used to hang up the spawns waves on OD. Place them in places where the cops know that they are there, but can't see them. The cops will just stand there and stare at it.

Sentries are fairly good on heists where you tend to stay in one place the whole time, like HoxOut Day 2 or Rats Day 1/Cook Off. You don't need to constantly be picking up and replacing the sentries in different positions; you can just place a sentry in a defended corner and refill its ammo accordingly. The ammo room in HoxOut Day 2 is a plus.

However, sentries are near-useless in jobs like Heat Street or Goat Sim because the map is too big to manage your sentries effectively and you're going to be moving around everywhere.

They are pretty good but only on maps like Cook off, Safehouse raid, Day 2 of Hoxton breakout. You basically equip supressed sentry as primary and normal sentries as secondary. For weapons you choose the GL40 and Chinapuff. When they have almost no ammo, you pick it up, get 1 ammo back, place it down for 1 ammo (you basically keep refilling their ammo and hp for free).
Thanks for the responses so far.
Now, that I have unlocked almost all skills in the Sentry gun tree I wonder which ones I should pick in a coop raid. What skills are invaluable on higher difficulties like mayhem and dead wish?

Is the reviving-shout worth it? Should i invest in more personal armor? should i invest in stealth skills? should i invest in being better armed? resisting tazing? And the OWE9000 saw? Are tripmine upgrades worth it or are they only as useful as a once time thing?

You have the option of unlocking several skill sets for money.

I recommend having two profiles as a "go to" loud and stealth set, while the rest can be "experimental".

Personally, I believe literally anything is viable overkill and below.
