I reinstalled the game and i lost everything!!!

because of the free give away on steam, some friends of mine wanted to play so i reinstalled the game. when it was done and i started the game it was all gone, all my money, weapons, masks,even some dlc weapons that i had weren't unlocked due to not owning the DLC but i bought almost every DLC there is to this game.

How come everything is gone? and are there more people with this problem?

Just to be cleear:

- Are you saying your progress was wiped, you're Level 0 and your inventory is empty? Like you're starting for the very beginning all over again?

- Or are you saying that your levels and weapons and stuff are all still there but that they are locked, telling you that you don't own the DLC for them?

everything is wiped, even the dlc's that i have bought aren't unlocked. not like unpurchaseable noo just like a standard, no dlc version of the game

Were you playing though family share? Once you get the game you lose access to content from the user you've shared.

Because now you just own the game, but you don't own the DLC.

Are your DLC still showing up under your PD2 title? You can click PD2 in your library to see the DLC you own, or right-click PD2 > Properties > DLC to see if they're still showing up, and if they're enabled (checked boxes)

Have you used any mods in the past, or currently use any?

If so, make they have been removed completely. Sometimes a person misses a file (like IPHLPAPI.dll) and that still causes issues with their game despite everything else being deleted.

Verify your game cache.
Right-click PD2 > Properties > Local Files > Verify Integrity of Game Files

i have used hoxhud before yeah but that was on my previous computer, i got a new computer a while back and it's clean from any mods

kk, so skip step#1, but you'll still want to verify your cache (step #2) to make sure your game isn't missing any files or had any files corrupted. I've had files go bad for no reason, it happens sometimes.

1 of the 2 problems is fixed i have my dlc's back(as in it's unlockable ingame)
the second problem is: i lost all my money, level, perks, masks, weapons, colors,paterns everything i grinded for is gone

In that instance, the only thing that can bring back your progress is if you have a copy of your save file.

Steam Cloud is notoriously unreliable (and I don't think it's even turned on by default for PD2 anymore, but I'm not positive). So if it doesn't prompt you to restore your save when you load the game, the only hope of regaining your previous progress is if you still have access to an old copy of your save file somewhere.

If you played it on an old PC, or at a friend's house, or you've ever made a backup of your PC's files in the past, then you may be able to recover your save files from there.


Aside from Steam Cloud, your save file is only ever stored on a PC that you're playing the game on, so only you would have access to it; nobody else including devs would be able to recover it for you.

If you don't have any copies of old save files and Steam Cloud wasn't enabled to save your progress (I keep Cloud turned off because I equate it to garbage), then you're likely out of luck on that front.
In the future, it is highly recommended to keep a manual backup of your PD2 save files.

then i guess i'm ♥♥♥♥♥♥... my old computer is wiped and my new computer only has the wiped payday.... well there goes my interest in playing the game xD
