Fix found: First things to try if your game is broken/will not launch/stuck at main menu

ATM there are afew things which can be done, first off try:

-When booting up the game, when you see the windows icon on your mouse, click nothing! if you do it will crash, boot up, wait 30 seconds and let it do its thing.

If it still does not work:

-Remove all mods (first uncheck off the launcher, if it does nothing, unsubscribe through steam workshop) then reboot the game.

If the above fails to work follow these steps:


-Go to "C:\Users\Administrador\AppData\Roaming\The Creative Assembly\Rome2"

-Then delete the Rome2 folder.


-Once removed go to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Total War Rome II\redist"

-Then open the files listed below in that order and click on repair for each one, the last one doesn't have a repair window pop up, instead you will see a small loading bar,

1-vcredist_x86-90.exe
2-vcredist_x86-100-sp1.exe
3-vcredist_x86-80-sp1.exe

Then just proceed to load your game and it should then go onto the main menu.



Basically a file save of settings which corrupts at random it seems. Reinstalling the game wont do anything as these files save locally.

Be aware that in the Users/roaming Rome 2 folder are your local save files, you may want to make a copy of these or just copy the entire Rome 2 folder which the guide asks you to delete. A friend recently fixed his game using this when it stopped working earleir today after 130 hours play time.

If you are unable to find the app data file then you will need to enable view of hidden files/folders.

For windows 7 go to control pannel, folder options, view tab and enable show hidden files and folders.

For Windows 8 go to the control pannel app, scroll to the bottom and select the More Settings. Then click on appearance and personalization, look under the folder options category and check the show hidden files/folders.

If you have hidden files/folders enabled and still dont see it make sure your looking at the User profile your currently logged into windows with.

I have Win 8, i did the second repairing the other files and also can't find that third step of yours, maybe it is different name in mine com due to Win 8? Please help

Is this the same for other games too? I am having other games interrupt and cut off after game start. RTW II has started doing it too. I've tried turning off all Firewall/Antivirus, reloading the games and restarting Steam after deleting the appcache (as recommended) but none of this seems to work. I am assuming the proble isn't with Steam.

It is possible it could fix different games, but they are few and far between with this exact one. Ive seen it once before with Project Reality, a BF2 mod.

Note that I was affected by patch 4 and had win 8 which my play a vital role, some guys I heard were affected from patch 5. Well good luck to those people fixing the prob.

I am running Win 8 but not out of choice. MS software is recycled downgrades with graphic cover ups. I am sick of being offered Word Pad and Paint (which is now less functional than the original) but some work related programs only run with the latest MS software, so it's a cross I have to bear. None of this is related to the game issues but worth knowing which version of MS software is running I guess. My Rome II is unmodded and I have had no problems until now.

you have to go around the rome II sticky screen launcher...

make sure you use the rome2.exe in the main steam folder.. the launcher folder is in the same folder as your exe.. you seriously can't miss it.

you litterally copy the rome2.exe-- look up open the launcher folder..

paste it into the launcher folder-

rename the original launcher anything, just get it out of the folder

then rename the copied rome2.exe to launcher

the game should start right up.

Im sorry did you not read where i said i tried all of your fixes this doesnt work i have done everything listed in this post everything step by step i even re installed this game and deleted all folders before reinstalling this game hate to say it but patch 5 is crap.
