Run the DX EXE file in your distrib file. Please Read....
For many of us who aren't the best about updating like myself, you really must go run the DX EXE in your Rome 2 distrib file as the game does not auto update on its own. This one thing made the game comparable to how my PC runs Shogun 2 which is just what I wanted from this game after all. Please try this yourselves as it takes just a minute and no harm can come of it. Good luck!

Exactly Tarman, I'm having a good laugh strollin through the forums here and hearing people whining. NO Specs info's, NO "I did so or so to try fix", etc etc, and you know the rest. I haven't yet patched myself, but can confirm that your post suggestion did good magic for me while playing the day before yesterday. So I hope alot of people having issues actually read and FOLLOW-THROUGH on this..
Does not fix performance issues on NVIDIA GTX 700 series. I have tried several times.
Yes we were told this on several occasions sadly it didn't do jack.
Which file do I have to run?

In the redist folder I have a folder named directx, 2 bat files and 3 exe files named vcredist_x86-80-sp1, vcredist_x86-90 and vcredist_x86-100-sp1
All it does is update direct x and the like. This isn't a wonder fix.
Helped a little thanks. But my game still freezes all the time. I need a good comp. Still...cmon CA you got our cash own up to your end.
DXSETUP....thats your file.

I'm sorry this didn't help you three but not everyone has the same setup you have. This did actually help me a lot and it has helped a few others that I have seen post about it. I never said this was a "wonder fix" (I actually say in my post this info is for those who do not update like they should) and I was not trying to speciffically fix atombombs problem so the fact that it didn't do jack for him, though it sucks, doesn't mean the information is worthless.

Instead of all the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ on these forums it would be cool if people tried to help each other out more often.

Shouldn't Steam try and update DX automatically when running Rome 2 for the first time?

Regardless. If you're proficient enough to post here, you should be proficient enough to keep your DX up to date. We're all hoping to find a way of making the game run better but the problem simply doesn't lie with the users.
How is this not a placebo? Every game on Steam auto-installs DirectX before it launches for the first time. Every game has a redist folder with DirectX in it. You say the game does not auto update on its own? Based on what? The game installs 10 things before it first launches, just because you don't remember it saying DirectX doesn't mean it didn't do it. You post no quantitative proof of this being a fix, no before and after frame rate numbers. The redistributable folder EXISTS for the sole purpose of auto running, and it does, just like every other game on steam. I know because it annoys the hell out of me that games install DirectX 9000 times.

780gtx here and it indeed doesn't help.

Who said anything about "the problem" and where it lies? Not everyone keeps up to date like they should and besides that, this game did not run a check as it should have on initial start up. I really can't help anyone on sleuthing where the (more than one I would wager) problem lies but I CAN help by relating experiences that I have gone through in the last two days that have improved my gameplay. I don't give a ♥♥♥♥ about anything but helping the community and it's members play this game in a more enjoyable fashion.

That's too bad but there are some people out there who do not have NVIDIA GTX 700 series cards and this information, though nowhere close to groundbreaking, is for them.

Also, for those of you running laptops like I do, and also have integrated graphics cards I suggest you go to http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/detect where your laptop can be scanned to see if you have the latest graphical drivers for your system.

I play War Thunder a lot, and after restoring my laptop to factory yesterday War Thunder directed me there to update my drivers. Well, the update was a big one and I sure don't remember having it installed ever before so maybe that is another piece to some of our puzzles that is easily remedied. Check it out if you use Intel powered laptops. You'll have to update your java if you have not done so in while but the website will direct you automatically if you need to do so. Good luck.

It's not a placebo because some like myself may have needed to update their drivers. I say it does not do so automatically because it did not do so. I don't need to remember what it said as I can check the data directly and besides that, surely anyone would remember the lack of the very unique windows that you will realize did not appear upon a manual install. I hope that last line made sense. As for "quantitative proof of this being a fix", I never said anything about a "fix" nor did I attempt to prove anything with my post. I was merely relating something that I had done along with one friend that has helped our gameplay experience a great deal. Most of all, what is wrong with a Steam user trying to help another Steam user? You get less ♥♥♥♥ on these forums when you ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ troll.

I will always try to share any experience that may help others as that is what I think a forum should be used for in a world without trolls.
