No manual pilum throw?
Rome is totally screwed without the ability to hold line and throw at a charging enemy, i now have to charge my men into the AI's charge breaking my line and let their men through my own lines? also units route way too quickly and fights barely last anything longer than 5 minutes.

playing custom battles to learn the game since it changed so much since rome 1, not sure if campaign is different.

LOL Next you'll be asking to take control of an individual soldier, right? This isnt and never will be anything remotely similar to HALO.

Dafuq? You just went full ♥♥♥♥♥♥. Never go full ♥♥♥♥♥♥.

Anyway, yes, I'd like the ability to throw pila at the charging enemy too. That is exactly the reason they were designed for and their primary role. Or at least they should throw them automatically not only when they charge, but when they are charged from the front too.

o.O

You, Sir, clearly haven't played Rome 1.....

Rome II, unluckily for us older TW fans, removed some tactical choices, and this is only one of the mistakes imho.

I play the Romans kind of primarily defensive and relying on the infantry to hold the line and slowly advance without the pilum they are just pointless and sit there taking all the charges and cannot counter anything, rushing out just for the pilum throw is insanely dangerous since the lines break and the AI just immediately exploits this. so if i cant throw my pilums as and when i order my men i may as well just play the greek states and camp with pikemen/hoplite. oh right those are broken too, constantly breaking the phalanx formation just to screw with the player

or at the very least just allow the commands to hold fire/fire at will so when the enemy approaches i can just turn it on and they throw it right before the lines meet

I also missed this.

I don´t need any manual "Throw Pilum"-Button, but I agree that it would be nice if defending troops would throw at least a single Pilum at approaching attackers (although it would have at the largest range for a Pilum throw (because it is realistic that the last moment before the lines meet, the soldiers have enough to do with bracing themselves for the clash of lines))

Ok my bad. That ability was in Rome 1? Yeah I played it to death back in the day...but never used that feature. Way to arcadey for me anyway.

its not taking control of a single unit to throw the pilum like the artillery in shogun, all i want is to allow them to throw pilums like how the skirmishers get the buttons. it allows for much better defensive play style than to have to charge at everybody. and the new UI is of no help to this, too little valuable information given and all sorts of pointless texts are shown instead. why no more small text showing up just describing the units as fresh/tired etc like the old ones instead i have to hover over the portrait and watch my men route in under 5 minutes
