Technically speaking, and please if someone knows better chime in, a mod can only alter or change so much but it has to work with the AI that's already present in the game. No mod truly changes or makes the AI better.
However there are ways to make it SEEM better. For example the DeI mod makes battles last longer by making units less prone to routing and by essentially decreasing the kill rate of all units.
To my knowledge though there are no mods that make the AI more prone to flanking or using better tactics and battlefield strategy - that kind of stuff is squarely in the hands of CA.
true, but the battle graphics with that mod are not very good, the battle fighting itself lasts longer, but isnt fun to watch, all the units get clustered, and you can see and sword fightingt animation. I would advise radious

The best part about it though is that it significantly improves the consequence of single battle be it won or lost, as repelnishment time is nerfed and more realistic, so that if you score decisive victory over one faction for example, you can take their 2 regions because of devastating effect that battle caused to them, and it was like that in real life back at a time. It also restricts number of armies you can field given how big is your empire.
TD:LR I love the mod!
I use this mod in conjunction with: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=198658091 and http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=225694896
Hope this help you as much as it did for me.
Although I must say, that Darthmod did change behavior of AI to make it look like it was acting smart by adjusting periphal AI-values and the inherent stats to make it more agressive. He did a great job in that. Shame he ''retired'' for Rome 2 and hes busy making his own game and all.
