Gotta Love That Metacritic Score - 3.9 and falling.

No point in bothering with the so-called professional review sites.

One of the reviewers - I think it was the guy from IGN, but don't quote me - had his Steam library looked at, and apparently he spent something like 3 hours playing the game. A game which he awared a ridiculously high score to.

Nope.

The scores that matter are from the people who actually played the game.

And this is all from the first page. It is also well known that people who like a game, wont write a review as quickly than people who dont like it. It's called the availibility bias.

Not saying the game is good, or bad. Just saying that basing an opinion at whatever number metacritic comes up with, is building on quicksand

Don't expect frustrated gamers on Metacritic to write an indepth review. Just because they sound like morons doesn't mean thier opinion and disgust with the game is unwaranted.

I'm not taking one side or the other, Rome2 hs always worked fairly well for me and I played it quite alot. Truth is I don't find it as strong as other TW titles and got bored with it quicker than others.

My hopes it does get up there with Shogun for playability, with epic expansions but I feel it won't. Shogun 2 was a little dry before I got Fall of the Samurai and Rise of the Samurai...hope the same thing happens with Rome2

Yes but for every 0 there is also a 10 that is also clearly not thought out, you quite clearly go out of your way to present only 1 side and you cannot explain away the Shogun score because it does not fit your theory. Happy customers do post, they post when they get hassle free quality.

Unlike the OP and his bedfellows who directed the "fairly brutal approach", I don't think that a zillion people, dizzy with their own emotions, rating a game a 10 or a 0, is the be all, end all benchmark.

In fact, given that OP and chums approve of metacritic as a metric of how good a game is, they are demonstrating that they probably would have ruined the game in just the same way if left in charge.

I'd never really read metacritic before but this thread piqued an interest. It's kinda funny and sad at the same time. Just read a 0 review who gave it a zero because, and for no other reason, a rally call against paid reviewers. Another one gives it a ten but then openly says it should be an eight.
And here's me thinking that 5/6 months after release that we were left with a more discerning crowd in these forums, haters or fanboys. I get Micksters point but think we also have to consider that R2 was probably THE most highly anticipated release of the TW series and therefore attracted far more interest than S2, that I think was somewhat more of a niche market audience.
I'm sorry, I've read a couple of these reviews on metacritic and me, personally, I just can't take any of it seriously, at least the crtitcs in this forum are able to make articulate and relevent arguements as opposed to petulent tantrums and hissy fits

I really wish there was a more up to date version of the older games. I haven't really played them much, other than Shogun 2 , but due to my utter disinterest in Japanese history (relative to Roman / European) it just didn't hold interest for me.

I'm really enjoying Rome 2, and if it's as bad compared to the old ones as people say, they must have been great.

I wasn't making an arguement one way or the other, and yes, that was my point, it can be done both ways so can't be given any credibility, I said in previous post one poster gives it a ten and then says it's really an eight!!. I totally agree with you, ignore metacritic and play game yourself, make own mind up. Just picked this as an example of how skewed the rating is
