How to use the Bolt gun.

I'm hoping someone can help me figure out what I'm doing wrong, I've picked up the bolt gun, equipped it and it does not work, I've aimed and fired from a distance and I've tried it when standing right next to the victim but I still get nothing, Does it need a pressure build or something and if so how is it done?
I'm missing something so if you can help it'd be great cheer's.

Hold what down the fire button?

I'm on a new playthrough now so I'll try that when I get the gun again, Thanks.

Yes, hold down the fire button and release to fire. The longer you hold it the more powerful it is.

A good close range headshot on full power is usually good to take down a Joe, thank god.

hold right button down left 2 stun but u need charges for it (ammo)

1- Hold down the right -click
2- Keep it held down while you also hold down the left-click.
3- Let it rotate a bit for a more powerful shot until the crosshair is very small.
4- Release left-click.

are you serious? or just trolling? hold the trigger button down until the damn thing starts to shake and flashes a bright blue color around its chamber. Then...gasp!!! let go of the trigger...

Welp, for what it's worth, I have been playing this game since Christmas on Nightmare (*did not go through it on any other level). I couldn't figure out how to work it either. Every other projectile weapon works by pretting LMB while holding RMB, so why not this one? It wasn't explained in the game dialogs either.

Q: are *you* trolling?

Like you I was unable to use it and I wanted to get it figured out so that I could get the associated achievement. Thankfully I did and have only got 3 or 4 achievements left to get now.

It's a great game and I'll play it again in a few months time.

You always get people who act like smug jerks, just ignore tham.

Finally finished on nightmare (did not bother with the other difficulties). It got tedious at the end.

It does get a bit annoying because it feels like it's done how it is to flesh the ending out a bit.

There I was wondering why the heck it wasn't doing any damage and that I may have picked up a dud lol.
Thanks for the tips, although a game dialogue box would have been handy too, but then it was the VHS era.
