Pay to win? Pay to advance you mean.

It's okay, you're clearly slow.

Advance getting all your rare lands or a full card collection? Show me a F2P account like that.

I think so as well

this game had the worst monetization system ever, Imagine you create a deck and lets skip on the lands, you have about 10 out of 36 cards spread between 2 card packs, I bought $60 worth of packs 'a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ AAA price' and wasn't even able to complete the ONE color deck, it was the last time I spent money on it, The duplicate/craftng system is a scam, you can't exchange your the card you don't want for anything, It's sad to see the best card game on PC ruined by greed

MTG:A is a scam, spy and lie "service" approved by Valve. Why would Valve approve such thing? Because they get a cut.

First and foremost a lot of people have different definitions of what pay 2 win, just remember that when talking with people as it could be very different than what your definition of pay 2 win is.

For me this is a CCG so it's going to have some pay 2 win to it, that's normal and not surprising. Like most CCG/TCG you have the option to spend really money to build your collection faster over someone who is free 2 play and doesn't spend money.

The only question that really matter in my opinion is how heavy is the pay 2 win in this Free 2 play game? I think MTG Arena's free 2 play model is pretty generous compared to a lot of other CCGs out there.

It does depend on what you want to do in the game though as well. If you want to draft constantly then yeah it will cost cash. If you are looking to climb the rankings in ranked play you can hit mythic rank without spending money.

OP felt they needed to make a thread for MTG Arena to fall asleep.

You saying you spent $60 on packs and not being able to make a mono colored deck sounds like a load of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and not just ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, heavy ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. That's 10,800 gems which is around 54 packs and that's not even the special deal you get offered for first time buyers(you would get more than that). In that 54 packs there's 432 cards. Each pack contains 8 cards, a 3 or 4 commons, a couple uncommons, 1 to 2 rare or mythic with a chance for there to be multiple rarity wild cards which you can use to craft ANY cards you want.

The duplicate system will grant you gems if you already have 4 of the same rare or mythic card. There's also the vault which gives you rare and mythic cards after you open a certain amount of packs. After you buy 10 packs of the current expansion you also get a gold pack which gives you a bunch of random rare and mythic cards.

MTG has always been expensive since it first was invented. You can call it p2w if you like but it sounds like it just isn't the TCG for you.

Maybe they will add Pauper mode for the little broke kids to play...

Yes, but not really, but kinda yeah. You're not gonna get entirely stomped if you don't have many cards, but you will be at a disadvantage of course. And you can get everything you need for free, but you'll have to play pretty much everyday for that. If you don't play regularly, you'll have to pay (and quite a lot) to keep up.

The main problem is Wizards printing way too many cards way too often. It's too hard to keep up. And it's hard to come back if you stopped playing for a while. You haven't played for some time and want to start playing again? Well, all the cards you had are worthless now and you have a thousand of new ones to learn and collect.

I used to play mtg back in the late 90s and stopped because it was hard to keep up with new expansions. Stopped before Homelands came out. Its shudder inducing to hear that there is 25.000+ unique cards now.

It is still cheaper than paper.

I've been playing this without spending anything since 2021. I've reached mytthic two times but most importantly it's been fun

You can have enough fun and collect a lot of cards without paying any money. The only money you need to spend is your time.
