Current scenarios are:
1. Manibus
2. Way of Winter
3. Evolution's Call
4. Prismverse's Clash
The difficulty level only changes numericals (eg. Enemy damage). They are supposedly changing this in future. Currently, difficulties are Novice, Normal and Hard.
The gameplay loop for this entire game boils down to:
1. Choose a scenario and difficulty.
2. Do whatever you want within the rules and gameplay content that the scenario offers.
3. Collect as much starchrom as you can.
4. Collect as many blueprint fragments as you can.
5. Repeat.
3 and 4 are the key progression because starchrom is used to unlock blueprints and blueprint fragments are used to increase level of a blueprint.
You get blueprint fragments when you open up mystical chests that can only be done once per playthrough. So, multiple playthroughs of the scenarios are needed if you want to upgrade everything.
Same for starchrom. There is a finite amount of starchrom you can get per scenario so multiple playthroughs are needed.
Everything else is secondary and does not really go towards your overall progression.
To be clear, you can do all the secondary things for fun because this is the point of playing a game. They include:
(A) Doing all the story quests in PVE scenarios (or PVP ones if you want).
(B) Building an awesome base.
(C) Playing content for exp and energy links.
Some aspects are shared between scenarios and others aren't. The Way of Winter scenario takes place on a different map for example and has a temperature mechanic that Manibus does not.
Overall though you're going to be doing about the same thing in each PvE scenario: clearing outposts and gathering materials to upgrade your base and equipment. So that's what I would suggest doing: clearing each outpost.
The most important thing to get from each outpost is the Mystical Chest though as that's how you'll unlock Blueprints to craft new weapons and gear. The game also offers EXP and other rewards for fully clearing each outpost too.
I will also mention that character levels aren't important in Once Human. All stats come from your equipment. Your level only determines what tier of gear you can wear and does not provide stats like it does in many games. As such don't be afraid of content above your level. If you don't feel like you're struggling to kill things then you can hold off on crafting the next tier of gear if you want.
That's pretty much the game in a nutshell though. Do quests, clear each outpost and gather materials to upgrade your base.
Explanations don't exist for this game. Most info they provide is useless. You sort of learn by bad experiences. You can try youTube but they have to be recent vids. By recent I mean a few days old. The devs change things in this game constantly and very rarely is the change for the better.
Best if you can team up with an experienced player and ask questions. Or maybe find a better game. This game is a mess.
Click on the banner and you'll notice the phases and the one you're currently in.
Once all phases come to completion the game will eventually reset; you'll be given an option to register on another server after which you can, well, play again. Most of your items get transferred to Eternaland and you'll be able to bring some of that gear back into the new scenario, though not all of it. Using some good tactics is of the essence here.
Also: with each phase new stuff will unlock. In the first phase most of the area is off limits and locked down, so after a week or so you'll be able to expand further into the world, well.. island.
It's always worth it. I got into this game around stage 4 so only played for 2 weeks or so, now I've been moved to a new server (and left the novice campaign). Thing is: I already gathered a ton of stuff during that gameplay so right now.... I have quite the advantage.
I already have a bad-ass deviation who can help me in battle (the Shattered Maiden, my all time favorite), I already deployed the janitor & digby boy long before Lowe hinted me at their presence and so I don't have to bother too much with gathering stuff right now.
Because all my weapon blueprints are also still available I could immediately craft my favorite rifle (though only tier 1) and that too gives me an advantage. Brought my Raid armor over (tier 2) so I have a solid advantage wrt protection and yah... good times.
Oh right, also build my industrial bed right away so I'll be healed in no time when needed.
The best you can do is to focus on your missions and make sure to have a good time playing. This game really rewards exploration & interaction.
There's a ton to discover where gameplay & mechanics are involved, I highly recommend to spend a bit of time in the survival manual (F6).
Hope this can give you some ideas!
Thanks again!
Am enjoying this a lot, am just not seeing the online aspect of the game at all yet, and that makes me sad.
Yes, in general, you will need to finish a scenario in order to move to another.
That said, they recently introduced a scenario exit card in the season shop. You can buy it for 1 mitsuko mark (not cash currency; you get this for doing season goals). There is a cool down of 60 days after use though.
For your case, because you are first time player, you can only play Manibus Novice or Evolution' Call Novice (I don't think Way of Winter Normal is available to new players but I could be wrong).
The scenario exit card also does not work for Novice servers.
Once you finish a novice server, you can pick Normal or Hard servers in future.
If you mean by the 'online aspect' interaction with other players then you only need to reach out and ask players to help. Most a happy to do so. Just hit them up with a friend request.
