Analog Controls Don't Work
Even if you're using the analogue stick, you can only move in 8 directions. This is not how the game is supposed to function. If you boot it up on a real PSX (or an emulator) you'll find you're supposed to be able to use the analog stick to move in any arbitrary direction.

??? Analog definitely worked for me and was not limited to 8 directions.
I wanted to die most of the time because I forgot there is no walking in this one, but I definitely had full range of motion

Weird. I only have the 8 directions, and I'm not the only one with this issue (see this reddit thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/metalgearsolid/comments/17fz513/no_analog_support_for_the_ps1_games/ )

LOL I get an error clicking on that link.
Anyway, part of why I know it had the full motion is because I kept just barely missing punches when fighting Liquid on top of Metal Gear. I'd try to aim like northeast and end up punching NNE and missing both punches and getting kicked before my kick lands...

Like I really forgot how floaty the movement in the game can be compared to later entries...
Anyway, not tryna derail your ♥♥♥♥ with my rambling, sorry I don't' have a solution for ya...

old pc version on GOG has patch that allowed full analogue movement. Shame Konami did not implement it in this release.

Well 1, you can't implement something into a game that was made for a completely different game.

And 2, it has analog and is clearly a bug for certain people/setups.

3, this are PlayStation games, like literally they are PlayStation "roms" run in an emulator, and the PS1 version has Analog support.

This has been bugging the hell out of me. I really hope it gets fixed.

Yup, I just compared the PSX version to this MC version. Analog controls aren't working in the MC version.

It seems that MGS MCV internal emulator uses wrong configuration for controller which makes analogue axis behave as d-pad. Shame that there is no ini file open for configuration to change internal emulator settings to the way we like it. Would be really helpful. But i hope someone will release unpacker\packer for main game archive so we can extract all internal isos and probably a config for emulator, which may help us to configure it better, if more advanced things are supported internally. I just hope they use code of some advanced new PS1 emulator like duckstation, and not the most basic and old one.

Just confirmed that you lied again. Absolutely everyone in this game has NO ANALOGUE movement working, only you falsely claim it works for you. Stop spreading lies and misinformation already!

Its the same game. Post a video proving you have analog controls in this version.

I must be dumb, but I have full analog range as well, I can tell by how I spin snake just like the OG Playstation Days. Maybe some people are having an issue with Steam Controller Settings? Of all the issues, Analog sticks is not one of them for me.

I'd assume you mean the thing when you crawl and spin Snake around? I like to do that do occasionally but it's about the same whether you use the dpad or analog stick. Though it's easier when you spin the analog stick than the dpad.

Try to just very slowly move the analog stick while running or crawling and see if Snake smoothly goes towards the directions you point at or if he just snaps to one of 8 directions.

Just report this troll every time you see him, he confirmed himself in other thread that 90% of his post here just to troll and annoy people (he was banned for that already in Payday 3 forums), so he says everything that simply opposed what majority says, just to troll people. I doubt he even believes what he says. Same goes for his claims about working analogue controls, he just lied about it to troll us. If everyone here would say we have working analogue controls - he would say oposite, that we are just not as smart as his majesty and game has no analogue controls. He also provoking people for rude answers and then falsely reporting them (he also confimed this in one of his posts), so dont get into argument with him, he is not just trolling but framing his victims for bans.

Simple test:
Go into 1st person view and use your analog stick to look up and down. If you can't control how far up and down you look, then analog is not working for you.
If you can stop and hold your view PARTIALLY up or down based on how far you move the stick, then your analog is working.
