2560x1440 not a thing gee

Sup fellas, Blops 2 simply not liking my resolution whatsoever.
Single player, multiplayer, zombies, nuk working g
The game works fine playing maxed out etc etc etc on 1920x1080.
However the moment I bump it up to 2560x1440 it just poops out.
When I bump it to 2K, the game doesn't refresh the screen (blacks out for a moment then comes back in the higher res).
It just stays on the cruddy resolution it was on-
if I restart the game, the window icon appears and I can hear the music, however nuk image appears. The game itself doesn't open.
I have to delete the config file for the game to open again.
Playing in 1080 isn't PCMR enough for me, any help will be greatly appreciated yoooooozuk chur fellas

i5 4690K @ 4.8Ghz
64GB 2488mhz Corsair Vengeance Pro
x2 120GB Samsung 840 EVO SSD's in Raid0

Probably wasn't supported as this game is nearly 4 years old. Gaming higher than 1920x1080 was a thing, but I don't think black ops 2 supports it.
