Speed stat is worthless?
There's a guide that explains how effective the stats are on your car, and It said that having a max speed stat over a minimum speed stat only gives you about 5% speed increase, and boost has a massive impact. If this is true, doesn't that mean that anybody with good boost stats automatically one of the best characters in the game such as Ralph and AGES, or even anybody with stats spread out but not in speed, such as Ulala, Pudding and Amigo some of the best characters in the game? What's your take on this?

EDIT: here is the guide. http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=149673910#91106

Hmm... giving a solid "this character is statistically the best" statement is basically impossible, given the skill levels and playstyles of different players. The closest I can get to a definitive statement is that any character\mod setup with at least 5 boost points is your best bet if you're going for raw speed. Ulala and Pudding with their console mods, for example, have excellent boost with great handling and acceleration. HOWEVER, I have seen pro players use 4/2/2/4 setups just as effectively as 5/1/1/5 or 4/1/1/6 setups.

A lot of things need ot be taken into account with this, both offline and online, and with playstyles, tracks and setups.

Generally speed would be your best best for consistent pacing, and catching up on stretches of straight road, but levels with a lot of tricks and boost pads with a higher boost stat may make up for your lack of speed. Preference is preference as well, as well as how you use the tricks and transformation boosts, as well as items interfering with you.

Offline however I don't see either making a real impact, since rubber banding is a thing. Just keep playing online and if you feel you're getting better results with one rather than the other, stick with it.

Boost stat is prolly one of the most relevant stats on most tracks, makes a lot of characters whose said stat is really high to be able to keep up on tracks where there are a lot of boost opportunities

Which is pretty much..every track except Egg Hangar, but even Egg Hangar is arguable.

Boost certainly helps more than speed.

In Carrier Zone Race, boost still overshadows speed by a fair margin as there's actually quite a few opportunities to boost.

The no.1 speed level is Sunshine, where it will about break even with Boost in terms of overall speed assuming you get all the level 3 drifts (not hard). But really, who cares about that level anyway :P

Speed is pretty misleading, a character with more boost than speed is faster than a character with more speed than boost. The developers appeared to have this in mind when they designed nearly all the console mods to be in favor of boost.

If you're playing against AI and comparing against them, take into account when the AI boosts vs. your boost. It's not entirely by the rules :P

If you're playing in TT, then remember boost pads give 1 boost, not 2.

For race, you should be comparing the time you finished across at least 5 runs, not the margin as this is subject to all sorts of wicked sorcery. Also the Boost stat scales with how well you do, as a higher level player will be boosting (and at higher ranks) more of the time.

Yeah, which is why you should be comparing your performance with a metric that's as consistent as possible across all racers, as opposed to one that's at the mercy of the adaptive AI performance.

Sorry for the ninja edits, my mind is mush from all the cpp I've been subjected to today :(

If only there was a racer with 1 speed, 6 boost.. That'd be hilarious.

That'd still be faster than the 3 spd 5 bst, 2 spd 4 bst characters.
Hm.....this I actually never knew. Ihough have to admit always wondered about it but never looked into it. Eh, I'll still keep playing my lovely console Gum no matter what. Still, I'll definately keep Shogun in mind more often going forward knowing this now.

Shogun's stats are pretty good due to the emphasis on boost... If only he didn't have a giant bloody fish for his boat.
I love his fish boat =3

Pudding comes pretty close to that with her balanced mod, with 1 speed and 5 boost. It's actually pretty solid from my experience.
