The 'difficulty' in World Tour...
I hope I'm not alone in finding it more frustrating than fun to deal with. The fact that the races are essentially 9v1s with friendly fire turned on just makes it a war of attrition, than an actual race. My favorite was earlier when I was in third near the finish line, the bot in second got a drone and fired it backwards at me rather than trying to take first. Their mindless hatred for you is just... ugh.

It's not very fun to do at higher difficulties. IE: Expert.

EDIT: I think a lot of people are misinterpreting what I'm drawing issue with. It's not that I find it too hard, it's that the difficulty feels very hollow and "anti-fun" to deal with.

I remember when I purchased this game with a friend during ps3 launch, we did the world tour in 2 player mode. We got hummiliated horribly and had to retry a lot each race. But you shouldn't look at the loss, you gotta look forward to the next race and doing better. Going from 10th place to 6th is "the improvement" and so forth

you'll get there. all it takes is an hour or 2 of dedication and attention. Losing in this game is not a bad thing, it simply means you gotta look for things where ya still gotta improve on.

Except I'm not really losing these races typically. I generally beat them on expert after an attempt or two. I occasionally get stuck, but for the most part, I beat them. It's simply... not fun in the process. Watching bots sit there and horde their items waiting to screw you over is not a fun way to race, it's a frustrating one. Sure, you can improve, but when the 3 bots in front of you horded all their snowballs to launch at you, then while you're still recovering, the 4 bots behind you all blast you as well, it just makes me want to launch my controller through the wall.

This thread is just made out of curiosity if other people felt the same way.

It took me hours and hours to beat World Tour, I think I was close to 100hrs played by the time I did, though many of those were spent on Time Attack and Matchmaking(both of which helped me improve and gain the skill to beat world tour). Point is it took a long time. It can get frustrating, but once you master it you will find it fairly easy. I almost always get 1st in S-Class races now, but it took a lot of practice to get to this point. Just keep at it you'll surely get there.

Edit*...reading your last response....YES it was very frustrating at times. VERY!

Yes the AI is harsh. Actually they arent ganging up on you. I'd say its just as much as it would happen in an event against real peeps. The gamedevs have also clarified many times that it is not programmed "that way" so its really just coincidence. Pay attention and you'll see they're shooting each other just as much and sometimes, yes, they'll gang up on "someone"(or at least it feels that way)

But i get ganged up in online games just as much. Other than that I still stand by that its not hard because of unfairness, but its cuz you still have a lot to improve. We all been there. One person likes it the other doesnt. For me it was very refreshing to play something that actually challenged me to become good from the get go. I actually like this type of game in general and I consider it one of this game's strenghts personally

The CPU will gang up on the player when the player would naturally be the priority target for more than one bot, either because their position is threatened or they're trying to overtake. It's realistic to a point, assuming that the other players are using common sense and not just spamming items whenever they get them.

It's doable! Just got my 232th star! The races are tough, really, some of them requiring to do them several times before you can get that super-glove or all-star at the end :P Having a little acceleration, like PrimeSonic said, is quite important indeed. Yo can try to practice in time trials too so you can get the fastest route possible. You'll become good enough to finish in the first three, and then it's a matter of luck.

I had a lot more difficulty in Traffic Attacks... The casino Boost Challenge is quite tough too.

Oh, and don't hesitate to change your /charactermods sometimes. I found it easier for some races to take Tails with more handling, like the Burning Rangers stage.

Acceleration is your ally for World Tour. Nothing is gonna stop the AI from all targeting you with items nor is anything gonna stop them from zooming past if they feel like it so grab max acceleration and just keep it close (stay in top4 if at all possible) Hope to find an all star and save it till the second half of lap three, then use it to pass them all and finish before they can target you again. That's how I beat all the normal races on S-Class.

Really, the hardest part of S-Class World Tour isn't the races but the traffic attacks, that one at Ocean View still gives me nightmares.

Made a minor edit, because it seems many people are missing what I'm getting at.

"I think a lot of people are misinterpreting what I'm drawing issue with. It's not that I find it too hard, it's that the difficulty feels very hollow and "anti-fun" to deal with."

Leaning about the game and it's mechanics was lots of fun. Even when my was was kicked by the AI, racing and mastering the tracks and weapons feld very rewarding

Most. Difficult. Event. Ever.

YES! The World Tour mode was some of the most frustration I've ever had with any video game, I swear, I'm going to break this computer playing it some day.

Yeah well. Got the game on a sale, learned my lesson.

I'm "stuck" at the unlock that requires 95 chars to open a new section of the world tour. I have all "Easy" stars up until then, with the exception of a single battle race (which is even more luck than anything else -- I even have the 'no lives lost' achievement from another battle race). I have a good deal of the "Medium" stars as well, and very few "Hard" stars for a total of 88 or 89 (don't remember).

Well, they have the money. Doesn't matter whether people can actually play the game...

I managed to get to 155. Now I've "quit" for a moment. Too much effort to eke too little more out of the game. Moved on.

I think you should just aim for 2 stars on all levels, and 3 on the regular race levels. Isn't too bad. 140 should be achievable.

I have a mixture of 1, 2, 3 and 4 stars. Can definitely make my 1s and 2s go to 3s at least, but like I said, no point in doing it already. Got my 15-odd hours of fun already!

I didn't realize the Ocean view's traffic attack was so hard. I got EXTREMELY lucky on my first go and got many super gloves.
But overall the world tour was a good challenge. I found it to be much less frustrating than mario kart, since AIs are evenly skilled. You notice that even more in GP mode.

Racing Computers is definitely anti-fun. This is where playing online comes into play.
