While it's for a good cause, and I would like to donate, I don't really like the idea of it at all. I would of probably donated even if no character was involved even, but since he's kind of just putting himself in the spotlight I almost don't want to.
Danica was fine, she's an actual racer and drove a sega car, I also believe she funded a bit of this game. However a youtuber that's spreading his popularity around seems incredibly unnapealing.
I'll probably still donate though, even if I heavily dislike the choice of character.
Take Vectorman as an example, lets say we created him used him as our charity character, you guys would pick him up, perhaps a few other owners of SART would too and we'd get a nice little donation.
While you may not be a fan of Simon, the numbers of fans He and the Yogscast have lifts him above the "some dude who makes videos" moniker. The team there have been playing and filming videos of SART since the launch and have been really supportive. Yogscast get roughly 3 million views daily and raised $200k in the last 48 hours on Humble. The potential to raise money for good causes is bigger. I'm sorry if there's a section of you that is frustrated by this, however, all your complaints are taken on board and ingested, perhaps if you don't want to support the DLC, perhaps you could take a look at the Humble Bundle and gift the SART Steam key to a buddy so more folks can share in this wonderful racer.
And if you see him in a MP race, make sure you win! :-)
My last post for now, the original idea was for an Ant Hill Mob style racer with many characters in the racer but that wasn't possible. Simon was chosen by the Sumo, SEGA and Yogscast, without his involvement.
Then just put SART in the humble bundle and be done with it. No need to shoehorn into a game he has no business being in.
And where are all these SART videos? All I see from them are mostly minecraft stuff?
You said he isn't forced on us. If I see him in game, then he is being forced on me.
not enough money?
Playing and filming huh? how many hours do they have logged in this game? Where are the vids?
money
cash

Just thought I'd give my nothing cents, nonsense.
DLC...whatever that is, is new to me, this is first pc/steam game for me, last console i owned was n64(or that era, can't remember exactly), point..no dlc. When I bought this game I bought it with no expectations or hope of more characters/tracks or more 'game' possibilities in the future. I have not been caught up in this whole S0L character poll thing(other than reading some forum posts). I don't really care who they put in the game.
However, youtube guy doesn't seem to be a great decision, character wise. No one seems to want him. I could care a less whether it's miku, vectorman, ryo or this simon guy. I don't know who any of them are and none of them mean anything to me. If the character has good stats I'll probably buy the dlc. I didn't like Willemus initially either, but his stats being so good has made him a fav. For me 2nd to stats is character appearance, ie, colour, shape, size and shape of vehicles, etc. If I like the look I'm more likely to play as him/her.
Also I'd like to point out that Sega really hasn't advertised this. Trying to "buy goodwill" isn't very accurate, especially since their target audience isn't even PC users.
Anyway...
So you know that bit on the Rollercoaster when you think it was all over... And then it's clunk, clunk, clunk, clunk and suddenly you are going up the hill again...?
Sort of like that.
There's been a lot of chatter in here, I'll address some of it.
Why Yogscast?
I'll admit, I wasn't sure about this hence my 'controversial' comments before the announcement.
But...
Every year the Yogscast crew do a big charity drive. All the money goes to good and worthy causes.
SEGA had already pledged to put Transformed into the Humble Bundle and approached us about adding a character. 'But!' we said 'Surely you want to do one of these ones that the fans want...!' - and so the rollercoaster started.
You'll have to wait and see how that works out...
In the meantime, it was clear this would be added via DLC. Rather than have it in as a full time addition to the cast, the agreement was made that it'd be optional DLC. Two reasons for that, an understanding that not everyone would want him in the game full time, but also so any money made could go direct to charity. On those grounds, we went ‘Oh GO ON THEN!’
Yes, I'm aware that you might see the character on the leaderboards or in matchmaking, but really when you consider the benefit to real lives, it's sort of a little petty to complain that 'Oh no there is a character in a video game I don't like!'.
So we got to it, we worked closely with the Yogscast team. Who it turns out are great fans of the game, and no this isn’t us trotting out some PR friendly press release rubbish either.
As we do with all the vehicles, we’ve looked to do something that fits into the style of the game, tried to add to the humour of the situation. So Simon really didn’t expect to be in a professional race and so has turned up wholly unprepared with something he built in his garage…
Wait until it shows up – there will be screens and videos out there – then decide whether you like it or not. We’re not forcing you either way, that’s the freedom of choice, it’s optional!
Besides, it’s not like we’ve phoned on any of the extra stuff we added to the game.
But that option can and will do some good. Every single penny/cent/centime/rupee/<insert currency here> goes to a good cause. It’s worth getting just to show SEGA how much they’re missing out on if they add something you like to the game, think about that…
Why is it always the PC that gets updates?
(Though of course, this is something the other forums seem to care more about, but it's interesting enough to share :P)
Mostly… As making any extra content costs money. Someone is footing that bill. When you foot the bill, you decide how and where that money is spent. You also will go for bang for buck.
Everything added to the game requires us to develop it (and for any platforms in question) and it requires SEGA to test it. In some cases it also involves external costs if the platform isn’t open.
Let’s look at the PC content to date. The original extra three characters were added as a thankyou to fans who waited for the PC version. Those characters were also picked as they represent PC-centric franchises, you are welcome to argue otherwise, but generally ask someone what they play Football Manager or Total War on and it’s usually a PC. Team Fortress 2 was added, well as the PC version if you haven’t noticed is Steam based. That and Valve are lovely and helped us out with models and speech.
The other PC characters were added to promote their respective games, General Winter to promote Company of Heroes 2 and Willemus promoting Rome Total War 2 (arguably more so than poor Will Overgard eating chillies - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n0zVIjtKJ1k).
Wait a minute, aren’t those also PC games…?
And now Yogscast. Chances are if you watch Yogscast you are watching it on…
This isn’t as we don’t want to add these characters to the console, I think you already know that I’d love to have all characters on every platform, hell I’d port the game to Dreamcast given the choice, but there are real financial reasons why it may not be practical.
And that’s as at the end of the day it’s a business. Look at the above and see it promotes other games on the same platform and it makes some modicum of sense. Note that those games aren’t on other platforms (stop shouting about Football Manager iOS/Android!) and you can see that maybe promoting them on consoles at potentially triple the cost, might not make sense.
That’s not to say we don’t constantly pass on the feedback and go ‘This’d be great on consoles’ but we also don’t have to foot the bill.
BonkerConkers (couldn't resist) is probably wind milling his arms right now to type his usual witty rebuke, so I’ll leave you with one final interesting comment. You remember those console updates? We covered the Dev Costs and SEGA provided the QA free of charge. We both wanted to fix the launch issues and deliver the game we all wanted and that you deserved.
Until the Yogscast DLC, anything we’ve added to the game has come at no cost to any of our players and fans. The Yogscast DLC will see all money go to charity.
Feel free to tell us how we’re all bad people and how we’ve done lots of bad things – but remember you’ve also got to acknowledge we’ve all done our best to give you a fun game in the first place and we’ve also gone out of our way to support and listen to you too.
…wait… is that the top, are we about to go over…? What, I’m not allowed to tell them about anything else…? Oh, I see… Woah, the rollercoaster starts again…!

You forgot about the Metal Sonic and Outrun Bay DLC. But yeah, I see where you're coming from.
Amen.
Ditto. I suggest we just wait and see, both for the Simon DLC itself... and whatever is coming up in the (hopefully) near future.
Also
Very much this.
Best Game Ever. Could it be better? Yes. It's got some issues still, like netcode. I won't mention characters or dlc, doesn't matter to me. Best Game Ever, so for that I have to say thank you. :)
The developers of Skullgirls said this as well, it's incredibly pricey to even add the smallest of patches to console because you have to pay fee's to do so with every little update and you have to wait for confirmations from both Microsoft or Sony which can even be declined by them. It's not an instant process and it can take months.
However for the most part, PC versions are free and far easier to update. Skullgirls updates litterally everyday on the pc version because of it and yet still hasn't been able to update it's console version in months, and not because they don't want to, but because they have to recieve confirmation from the companies that own the consoles.
The one time PC doesn't get the shaft and people complain about it. I have no sympathy now that the roles are reversed. If I can wait months for a game to come out in general, they can deal with this.
I don't like Simon or Yogcast, but i'm still going to donate and do my best to support.
