At least, Amy has more going on for her than you think. She has one of the smallest frames in the game in every vehicle form (That's more than I can say about Ralph, a top-tier character for example), and her 3 Speed allows Amy to have her 4 Boost last longer (console mod, mind you), which is more than I can say about AiAi's 2 Speed and 5 Boost (Again, console mod).
The reason why my focus was mainly on ASRT, is because even though I never touched Jak X before (might play that, sometime), I don't want to compare three different game mechanics.
Which means nothing if AiAi's targets aren't in claustrophobic spaces; in wide open spaces, AiAi's giant bananas will never hit anything.
You can't really pay attention to the All-Star stat, it isn't accurate in determining how useful your All-Star stat is. AiAi has 4 All-Star, but it's garbage unless it's the stairwell in Seasonal Shrines, for example, but AGES has the same 4 All-Star, but it hits anything that doesn't time their swerves correctly.
Amy's All-Star, however, is good for mid-range, though, so get within eyesight before trying to attack with it.
And since we're talking All-Star moves, let's move on to items in general.
A lot of people who main bottom- to mid-tier characters like you (especially you, I've raced you many a time before) and I often find themselves in constant attack mode because we know for a fact that we need those items if we want to win races. So, it'll pretty much boil down to your item accuracy and item evasion skills in the end.
As a matter of fact, it's not the character that sucks, it's how you use them.
One race I played in, I managed to get 10 seconds behind an Amy player and everyone else behind me ended DNF. That player didn't cheat but he had godly skills and as result, he made Amy one of fastest characters I've ever seen in a race.
Edit note: Using the word stupid was a figure of speech. Stop acting like you're all offended about it, this wasn't the intention. Plus I never said she was the fastest of all characters, I just said she wasn't slow.
I'm very well aware that anything can be dodged (Hell, I even hinted at how to dodge AGES's All-Star without any item), and what I meant by mid-range is basically within 3-5 yards of your target. Try to target someone who's further away, and you won't touch them until you get closer.
I admit I am extremely fast with Metal Sonic (at levels I never reached to with say Amy) but I still find Amy fast anyway. At least it is the feeling I got when racing with her or watching other players race with her.
The real thing is, a very skillful Amy (if we forget the fact that 5/1/1/5 characters are faster in a straight line) can be deadly fast if she masters tricks, drifts and boosts. As I said before, I raced against an Amy in the monkey temple course once (the first race of 2nd set) and as Tails, I only came 2nd 10 seconds after her and everyone else behind me was DNF. We were 9 in the race I believe. As a note, I am a 3 stars license racer...
Sure, you could say that if that player used a "faster" character with the same kind of skill, he may have been even faster but god Amy was fast on that race. Never seen a racer flash so fast ahead of me before. Granted, she was out of range of attack items and probably avoided bees like a pro but jeez. I wasn't getting hit so much if even at all myself and I never could catch up to her even if my life depended on it.
Just a note to the first post, no characters really have more stats than other characters. All characters have 12 stat points (not including All-stars) in their default builds and mods. Only maybe AGES is an exception because it has 13 stat points. (5/1/1/6). The issue is only maybe acceleration because nobody really use this stat when efficiency is involved. Only speed, boost and maybe handling (for people like me) really matter. Putting stat points in acceleration is a waste, if you think about it.
About stats, there's a major difference in speed between level 4 and 5+ boost which makes it unbalanced. It also explains why Amy is much slower, along with Amigo and Meemee compared to other console mods. Heck, I was using Amy on Graveyard Gig once and I was way ahead, but a friend of mine was catching up pretty quickly with Nights because of that boost difference. Which is why Amy is considered one of the slower characters.
I tried forever before. With Metal Sonic, I needed only one try. During the race and on boosts pads, I noticed myself catching up to my Tails ghost without much trouble. Once I arrived at the whirlpool, I was already ahead of the expert ghost and I had not even used my speed boost yet. When I used it, I left no chances to them to catch up to me.
The difference between my expert racing ghosts (Tails and Metal Sonic) was noticeable, though. I'd never consider Tails slow but Metal Sonic was indeed faster.
As the game says each car has their own unique stats, and so Amy is intended for more curved tracks. However in the hands of a pro she can do well on every single track. I remember that I owned a lot of people with Amy on tracks like Dream valley or Carrier zone.
Everyone who considers some characters slow, deal with it. You will get owned by these "slow" characters, either on straight or curved tracks.
EDIT: I just owned few races in a row with Amy. Find and ask Ninolaf and Ironstorm. Maybe I ended 2nd in 2 races but I definitly showed the style.
