SAASRT better than Mario Kart 8? I Sadly think so...
So I've put wellll over 200 hours into SAASRT and I just absolutely love it...theres stupid bugs that make it annoying sometimes like the slam you into the wall after going through a portal thing but otherwise its amazing. That being said, I have had my Wii U since Launch, and I stayd up Till 4 am so I could buy MK8 at its midnight release and played it for 3 hours. It's amazing! But after like 8 hours of playing the past couple days...I hate to say this...but I feel like SAASRT is better! I dont knoiw why! Mario Kart 8 is an amazing game, it's super fun to play but the Coin thing drives me up the wall, being in first place "coin coin coin" haha.
Do any of you guys own a wii u? What do you think? MK8 or SAASRT? let the debate being! Please keep it friendly! It's only opinions. I own a PS4 also and love my Wii U more, hahaha
I'm not the biggest gamer in the world, Mega MAn 2 was/is my favorite game of all time. just let me know what you think!

I like them both equally.
yeah i'm not saying it's bad, Cause i'm addicted! Mario Kart Double Dash was MY favorite and is still my favorite mario kart. But theres just something lacking...
I'll let you know... probably some time next week. I should have 8 then. Although I will say that I like both series for their own reasons.
Both games are great but MK8 can be more of a headache, whereas there appeas to be room for continued improvement on ASRT, MK8 focuses too much on items causing for a unpleasurable experience. Any place is not 1st can get anywhere from 3 mushrooms to 3 red shells to a lucky 8 which means if 1st didn't get a lead at the beginning chances are he/she'll be wrecked at the very end of teh race droping them from 1st to 5th (this happens often) which if you're good like myself, makes you just want to turn the game off. The developers did the game no justice making blue shells as rare as they are. I have noticed that any experienced player with a decently fast character can wreck every race easily simply by getting a good boost start, after that its just block the occassional red shell with a green/banana, collect 10 coins and smoke without effort.

When you look critically, MK8 has many flaws.

nah, Mario Kart 8 is way better.

Not that SASRT is bad, it's still a fun game to play. But MK8 is just much better designed. Better tracks, better controls, better music, etc. It even looks better.

The only thing MK8 has done absolutely wrong is the Battle Mode. They replaced confined arena levels like Block Fort with normal race tracks! That's just awful! Makes me wonder if they spent so much time on the main game that they just rushed making Battle Mode...

And this is why I refrain from Mario Kart. The items are just way too swingy.

If you play the game as sort of a "luck of the draw" game and just play to see who got the best roll of the proverbial dice, then sure, it's fine. But once you actually start investing yourself in mastering the game, taking the time to get good, only to be thrown back from the lead every single time becuase of items, it kills the very reason you kept playing the game in the first place.

To me, the MK franchise is best played as a party game, among friends, and with no one dedicated any real practice time to the game outside of those times.

That's the only way I can see to really enjoy the game, cause once you try to "get good at it", the items will kill your motivation faster than a blue shell to the face.

I could be wrong, but I think you can adjust items in online tourneys. I remember seeing some sort of toggle when I watched the Direct. Maybe they let us turn them off too? And maybe in other modes?
Super Item Kart 8 ! WAHOOO !

To any real player seeking to improve on their skill, Items make sure you can't unilize it, this game is for casuals only.

When it comes down to it, both of them are good games. But they are two very different kinds of racing games.

SASRT is a game based primarily in skill. You have to really grasp the game's mechanics both item wise and driving wise to really do well in SASRT. This is seen even in Single Player Mode; some of it's challenges are down right mean and difficult to the very core (Traffic Attack anyone?). If you are good at SASRT, items might give you a little bit of trouble; but once in the lead almost nothing can stop you. You earn your wins and it feels good.

Mario Kart 8 is a game where skill is maybe half the battle. Grasping the driving mechanics is important, but items negate some of that hard earned skill. The items in the Mario Kart series in general ensure that players with less skill have a chance to pass players with more skill far more often (and with far less effort) than in SASRT. And it's Single Player AI is either a complete joke (far too easy) or gets insanely lucky at the last minute (though not often). As has been said a few times before, Mario Kart is more of a party game. Skill alone will not save you from the terrors of the Red Shells/Blue Shells/Lightning.

Mario Kart 8 however shot itself in the foot with Battle Mode and it's Roster. A good portion of its roster are altered versions of the same character (Gold Pink Peach, Metal Mario, the Baby Characters) or one of the Koopalings (whom are effectively the same character). SASRT has a more interesting roster of characters to choose from and does it's other modes better than Mario Kart 8.

In the end, SASRT is more fun if you want to invest your time and really do well based on Skill. Mario Kart is fun if you just want to pick up a racing game and take a chance in multiplayer.

I kind of agree with the roster thing, although the Koopa Kids are in different weight classes.

Also, the main reason Transformed's roster is more interesting, is because it's doing something Nintendo would probably never dare do; it has characters from MANY SEGA franchises, not just Sonic. Why Nintendo seems to avoid making a "Smash Bros Kart" or something is beyond me. I mean, they already do a good enough job with the tracks when it's just the Mario universe. Imagine how crazy-bonkers-awesome it would be if they threw some Zelda, Metroid, etc into the mix? It would amp up the variety by a HUGE amount, characters AND tracks-wise (maybe even the items), and would probably bring a long-needed breath of fresh air to the series.

In other words, SEGA does what Nintendon't... weird, it's been decades, SEGA is no longer a console maker, and yet, that still holds true.

Yet previous Mario Karts had better rosters. There are plenty of other characters they could have put in place of the Koopalings or even the Baby characters (that have also appeared previously) such as R.O.B., Birdo, Dry Bones, Bowser Jr, Diddy Kong, Funky Kong, King Boo, Petey Piranha, or even Wiggler. It just seems they decided not to bring any of those characters back for whatever reason.

Also, Mario Kart Arcade GP had Namco characters (Pac-Man Characters as one example), but its obviously an arcade game.

They had better. But did they have best? =P

But I agree. I miss Dry Bones and R.O.B myself. The only character that I like that I feel makes me a bit different is... Koopa Troopa. No idea why.

I think the Mario Kart GP games are developed by Namco, hence the crossovers. Although I wouldn't mind Pac and a ghost or two joining up on the console/ handheld games.

Was always a fan of R.O.B., but I've settled with Rosalina.

They were Co-Developed by Namco yes. But the GP games aren't nearly as well known or popular (only in arcades) which might be one indication as why Nintendo doesn't do crossovers in their Mario Kart games.

Random Item 8? Anyone? Skill & All-Players Racing Madness? Anyone?
