Which is incredibly out of character. Its like they tried to turn it into a "Where's everyone going, bingo?" moment.

Leon is great as a sarcastic action foil in RE4. But thats pretty much the exact opposite of what James is.

Because it's clear like water that they are trying to copy the latest cringe worthy generic meh Resident Evil games which are all shooters btw (since 4, there's no horror, 7 and 8 are beyond cringe), that franchise has been completely destroyed and this one will follow unfortunately

There's a literal legal reason it can't look like the original James as far as I remember it was about royalties, but it's been too dang long, I care more about the game itself than the drama outside it. However, I'm pretty sure that's a part of it, the actor and the company had a falling out, Same reason they can't use his voice

This was only about original voice over, not the look of james.

Really? Then it doesn't make any sense to change his look at all, as that continued between him and the company for years afterward, at one point we'd even thought they made up, was a mess.

Both James and Leon are iconic survival horror characters from the 2000s. Given RE and SH are franchises that aim for the same market share and their fandoms overlap, this was bound to happen in some way or another.

James came into existence first, but Leon's franchise got bigger over time and is way more known than James's. And since RE got its remakes it's no real wonder why SH devs would want to get some people to think "hey, this dude looks like Leon! and the game's atmosphere is creepy and there are zombie-like creatures. Let's check it out!"

TL:DR contract/royalties issues as stated above AND marketing strategies. Nothing is a coincidence when it comes to competition. Not that I complain, I love both dudes
