Is the core of planets ever going to get more interesting?
I dug a hellavator on two planets now, and all i see is one giant line of lava. Not even any really interesting ore down here. I realized i could dig into the lava by putting down a block and then digging it out, and then ... nope, nothing "under" the lava layer. Just the bottom of the map.

It'd be nice if there was something neat down there, but then it'd be even closer to terraria in that aspect.
Yeeahh, I don't think they want that..
Closer to terraria, that is
People already are all "LOLTERRARIA"

I don't give a damn about it being similar to terraria. It's obviously half of terraria. It's OBVIOUSLY half of terraria. Why is that even a subject of discussion? Why are people admonishing it for being that, and why are people trying to defend it as not being that?

It's not the same, but the same concept. Basically a 'zone' that has great loot and strong enemies. You'd generally need some kind of preset area for a powerful monster. And the 'bottom' of the map is a very large area. Either requiring you to go and look around for the specific room it's in, or have a large zone where it has the ability to spawn. Not to mention it'd have to be zoned for the great loot to appear as well.

The lava area is just annoying. Even if you go dirting it all up looking for the strange ore floating around, it's not all that impressive.

Interstingly, this game also lets you travel up into space. You can even mine meteors and such (they're basically floating islands). Some of them appear to have larger amounts of the better ores, but maybe I just got lucky.

Really all i'm looking for - and it would be exceedingly appropriate for this game, is if there was occasionally a core dwelling civilization. Not demons necessarily, just some kind of city down there. They've got styles of cities on the surface. They could create a series of hell or "planet core" cities. And have a chance of finding some buildings full of these ancient and powerful creatures. Or perhaps they're not powerful, just a core dwelling alien race. And it might not always be a lava world down there. Maybe some worlds have a cold and solid core, where a dark, slimy race lives. I don't picture cthulhu hanging out in lava town.

@SWK, people are critical of the idea, "I have Terraria. Why do I want to pay for Terraria in Space?" It's clearly not Terraria in Space, it's a whole lot more, so...
On topic: They could up the difficulty a little on monsters lower down, but mostly I'd like to just see more ore finds the lower you go down. There are things buried underground, I have found them, though they are not always the most interesting things.
Mostly, I think the core of moons should be changed to solid ore, and it would be cool if there was some kind of way to go "through" the planet.

Planets are round. Interesting I know. So if you keep traveling to the left for instance eventually you will circle the planet. So the real question is why can't you dig through the center. And also why is the underground dispoportional to the time it takes you to circle the surface.

What do you mean? The underground is unrealistically "wide" compared to the surface, actually.

Because planets are just 2d. And you basically don't "circle the planet", you travel on 2d landscape, which places you on the opposite end, when you reach one.

Probably not. What do you expect them to do? It's the core, it's lava, that's how active planets work. Maybe they'll change some of them to be dead planets with solid cores of magmarock. There has to be a bottom though.

Currently you can "cool" the lava by placing blocks in it, which can reveal some ore, there's a fair amount of ore in the lava strip.

I expect them to put a hellish alien super fortress down there. Or at least have the possibility of there being one there. The most powerful aliens of the world, and some of the best loot.

Giant alien bases, XCOM style. Prepare your anus. >:D

Only thing which would really makes sense is ressources:
The Core magma is a super spot for Energy and Metals/ressources

So introduce machines that are able to harvest the core Magma for ressources and Energy, which could be used to create special Fuel, techs, special ressources.

The Core itselve shouldnt contain any Enemys or strange beings, but if you start to harvest the Core, introduce Enemys coming from space to a) prevent you from doing it (eco terrorists :P) or b) Steal you the riches or your work.

Yust my ideas to this.

A hell would be ridiculous for a game like starbound, hell is a concept that doesn't fits in a space exploring world, but, like op mentioned, what about some civilization wwhich prefer to built its cities in the core of the planet? like dwarfs prefer undergroud caves, atlantis people prefer the bottom of the sea (if you follow by Plato's lore, this were not a decision xD).

Ah, the classic SFS a la dwarf fortress. I approve.

Particular core biomes, constructions, maybe the remains of an ancient civilization, hidden bases. The possibilities are vast. I hope they don't leave it full of lava.

Could also have some super top-secret Apex research bases with time warping technology or something else...maybe super valuable techs inside after you manage to get through the booby traps and security systems..each race could have a potential super-secret base like that you would have to break into. Although that's very simliar to dungeons, but would be fun to find some kind of small research structure with epic tech hidden inside, deep deep in the core of a planet. There are alot of possibilities, and the whole 'Terraria Hell' style thing is only one single one out of a field of other ideas. I'm pretty sure they will make it more interesting if we voice our opinions strongly enough (and civilly enough).

As it is now, most planets are completely uninteresting even on the surface. You go to one planet, run in one direction until you find the dungeon, clear it in 5 mins, then move on to the next one. There need to be reasons to stay on a planet for more than that.

If there were rare 'Magrathea' style factory worlds, that'd make it damm interesting. Just watch your step.
I'm thinking abadoned or not so abadoned industrial complexs around the core.

For the uninitated, Magrathea is a planet from the Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy series. It was a planet/ factory that was used to create 'designer planets' for the ultra wealthy.
