The lacking and uninspired Story
Jesus Jose Christ, Starbound makes me feel as if I'm the only one that feels like the story is a shallow and linear journey accompanied by it's "multitude" of expansive side-quest. The reason for why I'm so upset is because ChuckleFish had 4-5 yearsish to make a compelling and well thought out story/game and what they do with that 1000+ days I don't know probably fingering each other until someone static concepts popped up. For starters, the game feels very shallow to the point where it's almost transparent, it's become watered down to the point were I question what did ChuckleFish do for the past 4 years as mentioned before. I mean there by my memory are 5 different types of quest: 1. Kill bandits 2. collect goods for x person 3. deliver junk to x y z for someones crush 4. deliver goods to merchant. 5. Rescue friend/crush(a tedious deed with the mind numbingly dumb AI) in some dungeon these are the best things to come out of the brain tank known as ChuckleFish, I solemnly applaud these inuitive designers and developers for they truly have gone far and beyong the set standard. Now lets meander back to the main focus with a question, who in there right mind decided to conjure up a plot that consist of going across the larger than Roberto Esquivel Cabreras ♥♥♥♥ universe to scan ♥♥♥♥ing furniture! Really! Did they just want to implement the concepts from No Mans Sky and implement it into this? All knowing that they're going against the colossal giant Terraria? There's so many directions they could of gone with, I mean they tried to establish a foundation of the games lore with books and with the whole 1 dimensional "Mission Quest" after scanning all those dusty artifacts and furniture in which you miraclously avoid contracting any sort of lung disease. With there already "expansive" universe they failed to do anything intriguing that warrants them to even be called a universal sandbox. Expanding upon the unlimited potential they had, lets take a look at the 5 or 6 "Story" characters, all of which have a distinct and colorful personality that gives a nice insight into the race they symbolize(except Novakids because chucklefish hates novakids) and what do you think they did with these great personalities you may ask? Nothing, they sit around at outpost by the side with the looney old woman selling you items or sending you out to find some "artifacts" for a "museum" that will never exist; The Floran characters arena side quest were if anything the best and most genuine thing on that floating rock, too bad there's only 3. To rap this ♥♥♥♥ show up, to me I see it all just narrowing down to laziness and procastination, this game feels like a still and evaporated swamp, hard to get into and shallow. 1.0 was a large flop of a update, to me this game remains in early access beta zone. :percy:

There are so many holes to poke in the story, besides the typos, that you are left wondering where all the beta testers were. Did they just not release this stuff to unstable and think it didn't need any feedback?

Trust me, you're not the only one who feels this way. In fact, I hear 'em, they're coming! RUN!

Harumph, Harumph, Harumph. A hundred people have already gone over this game's negatives. I have not much more to add, but it would be nice if CF added something.

whole thing is obviously a scam. seems to me they used the millions to set themselves up as a publisher instead of making the game as promised. they garanteed the game would be out by 2013.. apparently that tiy guy got fired from being terrarias sprite artist due to instead of actually making the sprites he just copy pasted sprites from other games. or so some birds told me. well, this is what happens when you give such people tons of money for empty promises

The lack of goal in this game leaves me uninterested to invest any time into it. Perhaps this is just how things are when it comes to creative games like this, but I find myself with little reason to keep on playing when there's no reason for me to. At this point in the game's development, I don't even see why anyone would bother building a base on a planet either, when we already have a spaceship. Every planet is pretty much the same, and contains nothing of interest.

you are not alone, I used to love this game on early access, now i just can't handle it anymore. Is tedious and the planets all look the same now.
The story is now Dragonagetwoish having both plotholes everywhere and no decision that matters, want to be a novakid? well you start graduating in earth and just get the lamest sword you can get. Love axes? Too bad, they are the worst kind of weapons. Like morphing ball from metroid in a game you can just break those blocks faster and doing tedious Mario is Missing quests? then this is the game for you.
I used to mod the game in it's early access state, but what did i mod? more races, colored ores (cause i didn't like minning... but now i don't like "combat" because it feels terrible handicapped), prismatic stars, in other words, i modded just to get more flavor for a good game. Starbound 1.0 was modded to beat the first boss, to REMOVE THE STUPID ITEM DROP FROM MINECRAFT in survival mode and still waiting for a "no naruto intro mission" mod that i know it won't happen.
Wish i had never bought this game now, it's terrible disappointing.

That key you have on your keyboard - the one labeled 'Enter' - yeah, use it next time.

Yes I miss that each race had their own story & related quest chain. The only logical reason I can think of why they changed it to the current one is that it's easier for everyone to focus on the same main quest in multiplayer.

no matter the backstory you'd have ended up at the outpost eventually. Then it'd start all the same.

Funny enough they tried to make it to where you couldnt progress in the nightly during it, making people either chear their way in and mod their way in, but that was maybe half the players of nightly, so i say intentionally cutting us off from giving feed back and complaining about the ♥♥♥♥♥♥ story.

I admit the story is rather generic, and the damn scan padding is a nightmare (especially looking for Hylotl items), but at least there's a story now. As opposed to a bunch of 'plot' books and random boss summons.

The game could use more content, true.

But whining about the story and quests? In Space Terarria? What the ♥♥♥♥ are you doing here? Are you one of those whiners who was highly disappointed by the ending of Minecraft too?
Exploration and building is the thing this game is more or less about. Now the building part is tight but the exploration could use a boost, mostly in terms of gear and enemies. That there's true.

But the story and lore as big points for this near unreadable wall of text? Really?

What the ♥♥♥♥ is with all these people buying a Sandbox and expecting Elder Scrolls.

Remember however that neither minecraft or terraria really have lore to begin with, sure minecraft has a few side stories but nothing that pertains to the game itself really, terraria is an rpg sandbox bottom line but without much need for a story, however starbound has a lot of lore behind it, so its more than reasonable for a decent story. I would expect something close to maybe a skyrim level of story telling and lore, not marrowind but skyrim level, we having played botht there is a large difference. And we would have had a much better story if it wasnt this STUPID ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ PROTECTORATE GARBAGE its so boring and so typical good guy.
