Peaceful mode?
Is there a peaceful mode, where no enemies spawn (or at the very least, you need to go into caves or other areas to find them) in Starbound?

No and that wouldn't work, since you require enemies drops in order to craft certain gear that will help you on your progression.

Okay, but I was thinking of something like Minecraft, where you can remove all enemies and have all supplies available from the start. Lots of games (such as Minecraft, Space Engineers, Empyrion, etc) do that, so it's not unreasonable to think it might also be here.

Well, this game is more RPG-esque, instead of being a simple sandbox such as Minecraft, but I can understand your line of thought.

Enemies aren't much of a challenge on the first planet anyways.

Maybe so, but that's not the point. My wife and I were looking for something that's similar to Minecraft or Space Engineers. It sounds like Starbound is more of an RPG with sandbox/creative elements, whereas the games we mentioned before — Minecraft, Space Engineers, and so on — are the opposite.

If you're looking to build without enemies but don't mind having to search for materials, Barren planets are good ones to start at since they have absolutely no enemies on their surfaces and don't require anything on your person to be on them.

Now that's interesting! No, we don't mind searching for materials (unless it eventually becomes so tedious that the game loses its "fun factor"), but it sounds like you need to kill enemies for materials as well as find them.

It might not be an ideal solution, but there is an admin command to disable spawning of enemies. /disableSpawning (More commands at http://starbounder.org/Commands )

From what I have played so far, mobs don't drop too many items necessary for progression purposes, and what items they do drop tend to be obtainable by certain farm creatures you can buy from the Terramart at the outpost anyhow.

That'd work. I always have to use admin commands to remove bats from spawning everywhere in Minecraft, so typing a command or two is fine with me. :)

If you've ever played Terraria it's like that for the most part. Which if you haven't played that, it's a must.
