I think he's a cowboy.
I mean they are pretty much a Kinder with ADD... O_o
(Don't be mistaken, Novakid is my race of choice.)
Well, instead of a classic old scanning quest, it could be interogations and stuff, and stopping a novakid-thief group that currently have the Novakid-race key.
I doubt that novakids would've gotten a key anyways considered they were born from the Cultivator after it died, either way bounty hunting could've been the answer to the whole "wtf are the sun people lores", and I say that they're born of the Cultivator because of this tumblr post[starboundseconds.tumblr.com] but that's LITERALLY the only piece of lore they have.
idk, with such a small team of 16 working on two new games (Wargroove and Witchbrook), I'm not surprised that they moved on from Starbound since they kind of just threw out there and called it done. Like I said maybe console will bring in more people!
Anyways if you're like me who's really thirsty for just any kind of lore in this desert of a media piece, I have a friend whose blog has a bunch of cool theories and headcanons on each of the races here[nyotasaimiri.tumblr.com]. even though it's not canon, it's fun to think about it. she also had an offer from CF to publish her Starbound story as an unofficial novel which I think is pretty cool
But one thing I really want to see though is htf do politics work in this game? ik US.E touches on all this but I'm still beefing up my character to tier 6 lol. What powers are there? Is there even an intergalactic council? are there borders in space? it's just a mystery......
on top of that, you know what I really want? Cities. WHERE are the big Star Wars cities??? all we have is lonely scattered villages-- I want to see planetwide cities like Coruscant. I know Citybound is a thing but because this is a 2D game, it's really just a lush planet with a city background. I think it'd be cool to get like, a brochure that would put significant places in the universe into your SAIL that you can just go to, like the Outpost or the Science Outpost from FU.
+ you're good, i forgive you! I totally understand your reaction-- so don't sweat it
Although I think that is also gonna be difficult to impliment + will be heavy on lower end PCs. I think CF was only trying to reach to the low-end customers as well, Considering they wouldn't have PCs that could run possible hundreds of NPCs on one planet (even if the game only renders so much at once to help with that issue.)
It would probably take tweaking, and hopefully some form of 'render distance' options, which I feel like they're missing out on, because something like that helps quite a few sandbox-based games. :P
In another note, if CF ever does (Or even gets close to) Doing an update that relates to the Novakid race, is anyone hoping for some form of land transport that isn't a hover vehicle? (I.E. trains.)
With the power of storywriting you can. US.E has a planned faction for the "Floran Liberation Front" which involves burning their own species that refuse to accept tech. For the Novakids a small group exists on some nondescript desert world where the local mayor is able to break the local populace out of constant forgetfulness and into what equates into an industrial revolution and questioning their existance (later killed by the player due to needing to fulfill a favor by the Vharkev Gang in order to help hijack a United Systems Rocket Train). Without atleast the "special" few that are able to retain knowledge the Nova's would have never even reached the Renaissance Age or discovered firearms. Atleast one needs to "revolutionize" a local populace before that information spreads across to other territories.
You see interrogations and other criminal elements like that would be great but only if done in a manner that feels... worth it. Simply "talking" isn't always going to work. Sometimes a little bit of "physical persuasion" will have to happen. Also incompetency doesn't work as well as one might think as it just comes off as unecessarily stupid, it comes off as awkward more than "funny". A criminal gang should be competent, especially one in possession of high-value objects.
Pretty much. The surprisingly thriving community owns the game now, modifying and adding to it due to the sheer moddability of the game. This is a great thing as it keeps the game afloat.
Bounty Hunting being canned deserves pitchforks. It could've gave extra opportunities to "discover" and give a good early-game method of earning pixels (because by late-game money doesn't matter anymore). As childish as the dialogue used in the teaser gifs were that code would've been a gold mine for modders.
On lore, it's interesting to think that every mod that ever added lore is in its own right, an "interactive fanfiction".
As for space politics it'd probably be the same as we have today. Republicans, Conservatives, Liberals, Nationalists, Socialists etc but more on a galactic scale. Superpowers may form but alot of star systems owned by a power would most likely be independent. Some independent powers might align themselves to a superpower as allegiance. I recommend looking into Elite Dangerous for a good example of Space Politics.
An intergalactic council would be... in my opinion only reserved for superpowers. Trying to include the thousands of independent non-aligned powers that would spawn from space colonization (i.e planned US.E lore is that Alpha Centauri Proxima B is a Fascist Police-State Megacity planet) wouldn't really be able to join a conference room discussing issues that most likely not be at all relevant to their territories.
Borders would most likely be defined by owned star systems. Any "lines" would be up to interpretation though, due to the extreme scale of space.
On the finality of cities, that's something that's more tedious than actually "hard". It can take hours to make a single parallax layer (bloated by an additional 3 hrs for making city lights, which I've been doing as I've been making my own "Lush City" for my mod update). Although I'll have to make an actual city background once I finish the 5th Campaign of Mars in US.E. Gotta work on Redya which'll be an absolute pain. It's pretty much just doing pixel-art and then doing the coding extra.
Cities don't have to render hundreds of npcs at once. By using static images and making them move in the background (2 lines of code) it can give off the illusion of being in a heavily populated area without needing hundreds of npcs at once on a single "planet". It could most likely be reduced to around 100 or 200 instead of 600 or so.
I mentioned US.E a few times because it's the only reference and "fanfiction" I have to help with explaining politics and other details.
Let's also ignore the fact that Starbound completely ignores how a society and economy actually works.

At least, I'm pretty sure "partnering" is distinct from "publishing".
Personally I've been slowly scrapping and rewriting my own take on what Starbound lore, campaign story, and progression should be, in hopes of one day making a bigger mod out of it. It's quite liberating to simply deny the sillier aspects of the lore I dislike.
I'm sure many others are doing the same.
The Quote: "If we manage to hit $500,000 in pre-orders, this race will be added to the base game and will be playable upon release. They will also be fully integrated into the lore!"
So how have they been "integrated"? becasue a tidbit about their origin isn't really "fully integrated" from what I can tell.
