Kinda stinks people are abandoning the project.
The idea of hiring amazing modders and people that put a lot into lore sounds fantastic to me, Hopefully they try it though.
Personally dislike that roblox meme so much that I have to reply.
Please keep that meme off of Steam. ._.
you demons: aVA LIS AND NOVAKID S SUCK!!! WAAAAAHH!! I CAN'T BELIEVE PEOPLE LIKE POPULAR THINGS!!!
I mean if it's any kind of incentive .... there's the original thread where the novakids were first pitched and some fanon lores swimming around the net... aheh;;
really if chucklefish doesn't do anything w/ novas we might as well make a Novakid unique story quest, that's what the Felin mod did
I mean. I personally don't like the implementation of the Protectorate. I think Chucklefish has really dumbed down the overall atmosphere of the game which is fine for ratings and all but they lost so much by doing that-- I feel like either the protectorate should be expanded or all races including Novakid should have the option of having their own racial quests but y'know ...
I haven't exactly tinkered with the Felin mod yet. (I have the mod, mostly 'cause I play with 2 of my friends.)
Although, if adding a 'storyline' quest for a species is possible through mods, then Someone might as well work on that, Considering it might take a long while for Chucklefish to decide on releasing 1.4.
I felt Eh on most of the storyline quest though. Mostly because scanning for stuff in 20 different starts is a bunch of crap Takes too long and pulls out some of the fun.
The modding community is AMAZING though. If someone can put in their own Storyline quest, then someone could work on a species from scratch and make lore, an entire story, everything from there. Although, as far as I know, modding gets very buggy. I've seen a lot of mods, and there's always an incompatibility issue or 2, or maybe even just an unintended bug. . _. I've started over like 5 times on SB now due to constant switching of mods. But I got a good collection with lack of issues now.
Edit: Boss fights were fun at first, but now they feel lacking/short.
I agree with you 100%... my character is a wanted outlaw who makes a living off robbing the rich and doing hanky panky for a buck-- why would he care about some goody two shoes boy scout organization
and while I'm a novakid stan myself, I feel like the reason people are drawn towards novas are for aesthetic. I mean... faceless, glowing, prettyboy star cowboys?? Sign me UP-- anyways rant ahead since we're all on the topic of roasting this game:
If i remember correctly back in the beta, before they implemented the Protectorate, it used to be that your character had an implied backstory based off their race through a codex. Your Apex were refugees or war criminals of some kind, your Avian doubted the existence of Kluex, your Hylotl wanted to spread peace, your Glitch ran away for being self-aware, Humans were either explorers or USCM soldiers (can't remember which one), Florans stole the ship you were on, etc. etc., which honestly sounds way cooler than "oh we're all at peace and unity"! By no means am I a segragationalist and yea, this is fiction, but you can have peace and unity without getting rid of what made every race unique and what made this game really popular.
Racial storyline quests are absolutely possible. WarWolf and some others created the United Systems expansion solely because humans did not get the love they deserve. I'm currently playing through it on a human character because I really, really wanted the humans having some sort of justice that isn't being a base for anime girl mod edits. I really like their take on the Protectorate and the USCM, and how the Protectorate-humans used their social skills to get alien races on their side in order to achieve power over other humans they were at war with (I think that was their lore, can't remember).
You're right though, mods are a mixed bag. I have over 200 including FU, Gunrunners, and the United Systems Expansion. takes me about 5 minutes to boot the game on my potato system lmao and that doesn't count the amount of times the game crashes on startup. don't get me wrong, I love this game, it's cute, I love exploring and I love the music and characters. But if it weren't for the modders this game would've Died as soon as Chucklefish abandoned ship.
And I agree w/ you, the scanning quests are so. Boring. The NPC side quests are more fun than the actual main quests. If I'm forced to do these quests, can they at least be fun or different each time?
If i were to redo the scanning quests then I would probably make clues more difficult to find so that there would be a purpose in visiting multiple racial dungeons and villages rather than just going into a village and completing the scanning there. Maybe you'd have to play some kind of minigame or beat some kind of boss. But that goes back to exactly what you said about boss fights being underwhelming.
For me, a lot of it comes from overpowering the mission-- I got to Solarium tier armor and then went back and did all the quests in one sitting. The Ruin was such a cakewalk and this is before I nuked my game with a bajillion mods. So yeah, bosses are REALLY tacked on...
(talking about beta again lol) Bosses before were actually fun to fight. I remember having to drug my character up with stimpacks JUST to fight Dreadwing because Dreadwing was a ♥♥♥♥♥ to fight. I think it had to do with overtiering and how before, to summon Dreadwing, you were required to craft a signal in order to progress and the game did not tell you that you were gonna fight a boss. Kind of like how in Terraria, they don't tell you you're gonna fight a boss-- they just say "craft and use this item" and look it's the boss! And Terraria boss fights are fun as hell even though you're just clicking for 5 minutes. So to solve the boss problem ..... maybe do that, make them harder, or prevent players from overtiering.
But Heck, what do i know, i'm an artist not a programmer ;; I would do all of this but i know nothing about modding .... anyways when I get my Game Design degree I'm taking over SB, hiring a bunch of people from the workshop and writers, and re-implementing all these changes. I love this game and it deserves more love ok-- rant over.
It would've been amazing if characters could have a backstory. I've never played the Beta, but if there was something better than the current intro-quest, I'd take it.
Also, the 'overtier prevention' is an excellent Idea. It might break a lot of mods if they try to impliment it, but it'd probably be worth it and atleast put some challenge in the game.
I agree that the game deserves a little more love. Part of me wishes I could put effort into it, too, But I know nothing when it comes to developing a game. /Part of me did want to get into the music side of things, though... Might take ages./
Hopefully things eventually start going in a good direction. Knowing that the dev group is back to being small now, It puts in a lot of doubt. At the very least, it's good to know they've tried to keep working on it.
(Also, just a side note, I personally really love your art. It's adorable and sometimes funny, and you're one of the best artists I'll probably ever see, even if I only met you through Steam.
