Unplayable Low FPS
Before 1.4 Starbound worked without lag ever. I'll admit im on a lower end laptop, but with low settings and windowed before i was able to play. Now with the same settings the game is unplayable. There is incredible delay between any keypresses and action on screen. Any help?

I'm having the same issue, I play in a laptop too but I also play Path of Exile, League of legends, Terraria, trove and other games that are similar or even more heavy to run. I wish they fix that soon :(
I put the game to run as administrator, turn vsync to false, remove the background with mods and it still ♥♥♥♥♥♥ to play. :steamsad:

In my experience, closing Discord does wonders, if you have it. You gotta open up Task Manager and close all of the Discord processes (there should be like 5-ish.) I also have a neanderthal-tier PC, and this boosted my FPS from unplayable to enjoyable.

I've experienced smooth lagging with fps drops (playing with FU and other mods), but now the game goes pretty fast (even on my peace of scrap)
Aaand... It's all about quests...
I took too much of them, all FU quests in tutorial and science tabs, I just canceled them
Hope it'll help you 🌚
I recently started playing again and noticed starbound now has lag spikes. I assume with whatever stuff they added since I last played must of caused the need for them to optimize again. The question is will they? Also I am not on a toaster but a high end pc. I still mostly get 61 average fps but sometimes things stutter and I cannot fully tell if it's fps drop to not. It is super annoying.

I have the exact same problem. but I have a pretty high end pc... But yeah, the game will act as if I'm holding down a movement button when I'm not at times, or won't jump until a few seconds later when I'm at my base/ship... A problem that didn't exist before this new patch.

If you're frequently getting a 1-2 second freeze then go into options and enable texture limit then disable multi texturing. This fixed it for me. It doesn't seem to make any graphical difference either.

Yeah, I'm having this 1-2 second freeze but fixing these option didn't change a thing unfortunately :(

I'm on a 64-bit computer, I've turned every graphic setting to low, play in a window, abandoned all quests, stood in an area with no many animations/items on screen, launched from admin, gotten mods that try and help the game run better, and completely closed down discord... and the FPS is still unplayably low! I'll just have to wait until they patch it or get a better computer ig...

same, it's horrible. i searched around and found a way to download older versions of games and reverted starbound back to before the bounty hunter update... my fps is now capped at 60 compared to 3-10fps on live. unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a way to play online or with mods like that, though.

my game runs completely fine but my inputs are so delayed and "jumpy" that's its unplayable in any form. im very confused as to why this is happening because im meeting the requirements for the game.

My game was fine before, it worked even with Discord in the background and lots of mods. My computer recently died, I got it fixed, got Windows Ten instead of Seven (still the same computer as of specifications, only system was changed). Now after the complete reinstall of the whole computer, even vanilla Starbound lags. First it didn't want to launch at all, took me a while to figure why, it remembered all the mods I was subscribed to, after unsubscribing from all, launching vanilla Starbound finally worked, but after creating a character and going through the tutorial part, the game lags like hell, mostly in various menus (like crafting, but also inventory). Windowed or not, the result is still laggy to the extend it makes the game unplayable, like the original poster mentioned.

Hey guys! I got a new computer with top of the line parts and I'm happy to say that I am able to play Starbound again! While this isn't really a "solution" that every player can use, I just wanted to thank you guys fro trying to help me out when I was having issues, and I'm so excited to be able to play one of my favorite games again, especially after months of waiting and waiting. I'm blasting off into the stars once more!!!
