General Questions (Originally "Aggressive Monsters?")
Good evening. Since last time I played Starbound was at least a year and a half ago, I am wondering if the monsters are still aggressive in different planets.

One of the things that I enjoyed when I first picked up sidescroll digging and crafting games such as Terraria and Starbound, was defending my creation and expanding it to become more formidable redoubt against hostile environment.

Terraria still makes it difficult at night time, while in comparison, the newer release of Starbound seems to have their monsters behave different from the hyper-aggressive and dangerous birds that I used to fight against in early days of Early Release.

So I ask now; will I run into more dangerous planet where indigenous creatures will seek me out as I try to dig in my Floran fortification?

(That is, for RP-inclined players, a hodge podge of materials that I carried from previous planet when I find a "home" worthy of the hunt!)

Additional Question; as I have not gone far in the newer edition yet, is there item that behaves similar to Terraria's "rope" that I can dangle from to make construction easy, as well as just having a "zipline" from a spire to spire when I get there?

There are a lot of monsters that "attack" you, but they mostly just do a little hop and start running mindlessly at you. None of them pose much of a challenge except for the occasional ranged mob or bandits.

So I should not expect Terraria-style night terrors as I begin constructing a redoubt for the settlers and friends that may hop in, then.

Unlike in Terraria, monsters and hostile NPCs in Starbound are not always aggressive to you or friendly NPCs - "aggressive" monsters will only start pursuing their target once they spot it, which requires that they wander close enough and have clear line of sight to their target. If a hostile has no target, it will merely wander around aimlessly until it spots a target.

Starbound has platforms, but nothing like Terraria's static ropes. You'll have to build your scaffolding out of platforms and/or blocks, though this isn't as tedious as it may sound due to the Matter Manipulator's long range (which can be made even longer through upgrades).

You can construct something like a zipline in Starbound. Once you have access to the Rail Crafting Table, you can build a rail path between two places and use a Rail Hook (a one-handed tool) to travel along the rail (you can also place a mobile platform on the rail and ride it so you can have both hands free to use something else).

Monsters are easy to kill ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Is there a non-mod or admin command way of going about and creating a waterfall? I had in my mind to create a small waterfall within a base I would like to build to act as a fancy form of bath. Googling waterfall idea has resulted in threads from 2013 that otherwise points fingers and mods or using an admin command, and I generally have unexplainable aversion of modding the game.

I have seen a thread that says "airlock" which seems to have "drains" system that has wiring, but is that legitimate, or is that a result of a mod or admin commands to have a source of infinite water?

Edit: Asking the question here rather than opening a new thread since I already asked a question earlier in regards to "zipline", which the rail system should be able to get something I wanted to achieve akin to ropes in Terraria.

Infinite liquids only occur naturally on ocean-type planets, of which there are four kinds: "ocean" planets (tropical ocean planets), "toxic" planets (oceans of poison), "frozen ocean" planets (arctic ocean planets), and "magma" planets (oceans of lava). There is no legitimate way to get infinite liquids outside of the oceans of ocean-type planets; if you're on an ocean-type planet, however, you can exploit liquid mixing mechanics to obtain renewable sources of any liquid, including liquid starship fuel.

Drains are part of vanilla Starbound - they can be crafted at the Wiring Station, which is obtained at the same time as the Rail Crafting Table. If you're not on an ocean-type planet, you can achieve a similar effect without a drain object by drilling a hole in the background (mine background blocks with RMB) behind any pool of liquid.

If you want a waterfall, one way to go about it would be to make your home underwater on an "ocean" or "frozen ocean" planet. For your waterfall room, you would install some drains in the bottom, then make an opening to let water inside the room (whether by drilling a hole in your home's background or making the hole through the roof). Since the drains whisk away the water that floods in from the (frozen) ocean, you can have falling water without also getting your base flooded.

I see... I suppose I can be doing a godly scale of creating a landmass in an ocean planet then. Thank you.

I hear terraforming is a thing in newer editions of Starbound. Even though what I have to do seems to be a "manual terraforming" since I still need a source of infinite water.

I suppose I'll have my work cut out for me now that I know I can only have so many baseline planet to hold my dreams. Hopefully I won't run into FPS drop that some players speak of, as well when I go on about this.

Or is it possible to run admin commands if I hold a dedicated server to place an infinite water source somewhere? Other option than manual terraforming seems to be hoping that Chucklefish eventually add piping and pumps in the game, but I don't know if that'll ever happen at the rate of them coming out from early access and then actual release.
