how the hell do you get the moonlight greatsword?

i know its *supposed* to come off seath's tail, but i just took like 30 minutes killing him ONLY with shots to the very tip of his tail, and nothing, his entire lifebar taken off with shots to the tail and i dont have the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ sword, so im gonna have to wait till the NG to do it, oh im sure seath will be easy then........

also WTF i got like 3fps whenever he did his huge crystal aoe, 3 ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ fps, what the actual ♥♥♥♥ from software? thats a joke.

Did you get the right tail? you have to shoot at the tip of his big central tail; the problem is that he's so big the tip is often no clipping into the wall so you have to run away and lure him away from the walls. Next time just die or homeward bone if his health is too low. Like the other tail weapons, you'll get a prompt and automatically pick it up if you cut off the tail .

I didn't get the sword before I killed him. Can I get it by helping another player kill him or do I need to do it in new game plus?

It does come off the dragon but don't hit the tip. Hit the base of the tail at the very top.

Also don't worry too much about it unless you have extrememly high intellect. Its damage is kind of crappy unless you have above 80 int. (Int based character I am.) If you don't have around that much int I suggest using Iago and making it to magic weapon+5 and then ascending it to enchanted weapon +5. It scales of int/dex with an A/S rating. Don't recall and it has great base damage. I'm both dex and int but again main int. The moonlight great sword won't do huge amounts of damage until you have alot of int

i hit the tip of his tail with every shot, thats why it took me half an hour, im soul level 80 and really want this sword :(

best way to get it is to lure him to the crystal and when he prepares for the front breath start running with no armor penalty towards his tail the breath will break the crystal will make him attackable and stun him long enough for you to get to the tail hit it fast for like 400-600 and it will right come off

If you killed him, and didn't get it, you have to wait for New Game plus, since cutting the tail in someone elses game, will only give them the sword.

As others have said, if you are trying for the sword, DO NOT KILL HIM.

If his health gets too low, just let him kill you and try again. (or homeward bone)

So I put 4 soul spears into the base of his tail and nothing happened. Anyone know a solution?

My preferred method has been to level up pyromancy flame a ton and do my best throwing some big fat fireballs at the tail or using firestorm while near the tail.

Chopping it off with a ton of strength and some high level ultra greatsword or something along those lines should also be easy but kind of pointless if you're going for a min-maxed mage warrior.
