In your opinion: Best Armor?
I was wondering this earlier, as I see a lot of Ornstein armor sets and Gold hemmed sets (more than anything else) and maybe the occasional Havel set. What would you say the best armor is for each weight class (light, medium, heavy) and why?

The best armor isn't a set, it's a mix-match to reach your ideal movement/roll speed (fast or mid roll) while maximizing your poise

Dependent on situations and builds really.

Though if we are talking about possibly the best piece of gear , HSW would be considered to be the best in terms of Stats/Weight.

Make your own armor set...
I'm not being an idiot here, its really the best answer to this...
As long as you can be light/medium/heavy, go equiping the more heavy ones until you are satisfied.

As for best armor SET, I would say gold hemmed for light, stone set for heavy deffense, havel for heavy poise, and medium... i dunno :/

Personal favourites
Light: black leather most likely
Medium: Eastern
Heavy Obviously havels. however, I usually rock with the full set except chestplate. It looks intimidating as hell.

my personal favourites are
Light: leather armor + dingy hood
Medium: Combination of Elite Knight armor and some sort of dress (My battlemage set)
Heavy: Heavy armor does not exist in my world.. xD

Some of the best peices of armor in relation to weight to poise ratio are havels gauntlets and the gargoyle helm.

But your question is kinda hard to answer because best as it pertains to someones opinion doesnt always mean its actually that good. I personally hate the way the gargoyle helmet looks even though its functionally an amazing peice of gear. Im also fond of form over function so i prefer complete sets or armor peices that go together even if they arent optimized.

My current character that im playing is using the full onion bro armor, and imo it is the best combination of weight to poise that is available in that range.

Having lots of fun with Gargoyle helm, Havel gloves, Havel legs, Steel chest, Eagle shield. Very good defense, plus with Lautrec and Havel rings I can run fast :)

I must confess I go a lot more by the looks than by functionality

Different fighting styles favors different kind of armours. I think that using slow swinging weapons go along with heavy armour and high poise. You got your attacks through even enemy is hitting you at the same time.

I find the fully upgraded Giants Armour to be useful as it provides decent protection while being able to roll without Haval's Ring.

There are no "best" sets, though there are "best stat" sets.

Havel's is good, but it's not *that* good. It has the second best poise to weight ratio, but not the best (best is hollow soldier waistcloth by a landslide - if you're into high poise you might want to have a look at gargoyle helm as well), and since Havel's cannot be upgraded it eventually loses to fully upgraded black iron / giant sets in one respect or another. My poise setups have at most *one* piece from Havel's -the gauntlets-, even when going full heavy armor tank.

As a lot of people have stated, I think there´s no *best armor* per se. All depends on what you want. Low weight, high poise, good elemental protection, etc. it depends on situation. Also, it really depends on your taste and playstyle. Maybe "x" set of armor isn´t that good (or isn´t the best stat-wise) but you really like it´s design and looks, well, probably you'll still end using it because you simply like it.

Having said that, I really like the Elite Knight set. Fully upgraded it offers an amazing physical defense, some good elemental and magic defenses and its pretty light compared to other medium armor sets. To give you an example, the chest piece, when fully upgraded, offers 94 physical defense (as good as havel´s, better than the garden sentinels), magic/lightning/fire are 41/43/36 (lower than havel´s and sentinel's, but much lighter too). If poise is a problem, go with Wolf ring and you´ll end up with something like 80 poise. And, I really like how it looks :)

Edit: Also, if the elemental protection is a problem, you can use a stoneplate ring. Since you won´t be needing that havel´s ring for good mobility, you have a ring slot free.
