need a map for these catacombs :)
I am getting some serious case of Deja Vu here. I keep routing back to places I have already explored or falling through holes in the floor that magically deposit me in a new place each time.

Eh, Cats isn`t that complicated. Once you have the second bridge down you can probably get to the boss door from the first bonfire in under a minute.

It does take a little while to get all the stuff but the only really good things in that area are, in descending order of usefulness -

Great Scythe
Darkmoon Seance Ring
Lucerne
A Titanite Demon
Gravelord Covenant Access
Vamos
Paladin Leeroy Summon

Once you`ve found all those there`s no good reason to stay in Cats, unless you`re invading.

I found the ring but that is about all at the moment. Haven't come across a Great Sythe (is that a rare drop), certainly havent seen the titanite demon and I have seen enough of those basturds to know exactly what they look like :).. No paladdin yet either nor Vamos. I am beginning to wonder what the hell have I been exploring for the last hour.

Shot for the map dude...it was more rhetorical than anything else but I see this is going to come in handy. Already I see a fall down section which explains why I have been going around and around in circles.

Great Scythe is found after you drop down somewhere. Forgot where. Only one per playthrough.
Also: WHO NEEDS A MAP.

pinwheel was the easiest boss to kill, is there another way to get to tomb of giants other than going through catacoombs?

The GS is right before the drop down to Vamos.
As you cross the second bridge (the one that patches tries to flip on you)
you'll see a small ledge jutting out of the moutain side with a cave enterence next to it. Roll off the cliff onto the ledge, then enter the hole in the wall. Immeadietly to your left is the GS! Just make sure to turn left befor droping down to the next level where the lever is.
Once you have it drop down to that lower level push the lever in kill the
undead mage (robed fire shooting pain in the ass) then continue into the next room and carfully make your way down hugging the right wall, then as you approach the ledge your gonna want to stand on the left corner of the ledge and walk strait off to land on the next little ledge sticking out. Its kind of a trcky jump, you can make it to the lower one with the item on the first jump, but I find it easier to do one ledge at a time. Once your on the middle ledge you can just jump the rest of the way but you might want the item (green titanite) if you dont have one already. It will come in handy when you meet Vamos.

I think I have an idea where the scythe is, I can see a body lying on a ledge with an item, just got to figure out how to get there though

That's not the Great Scythe. Just in case you still can't find it:

Once you have the Great Scythe you will never, ever, want to use any other weapon ever again. It almost feels like cheating, that`s how good a weapon it is.

Get it. ASAP.

The catacombs are still a bit of a blur in my head, one tunnel leading into another that looked like another you passed minutes ago, one level hidden but accessible from the other. I would expect real life catacombs to be like a rats nest of tunnels and Dark Souls pulled this off admirably. I Need to go back and actually do some exploring now that the level boss has been taken care of

Wait until Tomb of effing Giants.

Tomb is actually pretty straightforward. It just feels like it`s labyrinthine because of... well I`ll let OP discover that by his lonesome.
