How does one transfer save files ?
Hello everyone, now I "might" not of downloaded the steam version of dark souls at first. I have purchased it at the current time (look in my game library if you don't believe me). But I had a lot of time played on the "might not be steam version" and now I'm wondering how do I get the 51 hours played save file on the steam version (which I have purchased). Be cause otherwise I'd have to use some cheaty save editor to regain all the progress I have on my "might not be steam version". If anyone can help me please tell me a way to do it, or link me some where that can help, please.

Just copy the save file and paste it into your save folder.

If i'm not mistaken, you probably used an offline gfwl account for the non-steam version, so it should be under
My Documents>NBGI>Dark souls> Offline account

just copy the save file inside that folder, and paste it into your own gfwl account,
My doucuments>NBGI>Dark Souls> gfwl account

36hours into the game isn't that much, considering that you have gone through the game alraedy, you wont waste time/
My first runthrough was around 100hours or so, on my second character, i got into NG+ in under 3hours.
That being said, maybe it isn't a bad idea to start a new character. Maybe tweak your build or try something new like a different playstyle. If you were a knight before, you could try a mage etc.

Yes, I do realise (incorrect spelling i think) that I'm not that far into the game, but what is the "save file" called? And I was inferring (wink) that I had a "craked version" not a disc version.

There should be only one file in the folder, think it should be something like DRAK0005.sl2 or something similar.

Yes i know what you meant ;)
Even the disc version prompts you to make an online account.
The cracked version usually has you sign in into an offline account made by someone else.

Sorry about that randomness post ^^, anyway thanks for your help but the file is corrupted when I try to put it in the legit dark souls profile folder so looks like I'll have to restart no matter what :) :(.

Wait, how do you tell what version of the game you are running?
ZakisFluffy Jan 11, 2014 @ 10:50am
Hover over the DATA.exe, it should tell your what version it is.

Yea was just gona suggest that it might be because the cracked version is an older copy and the legit one is newer.

Might have to disbale updates on steam and replace some files to get it back to the old version.

may help ya with what files to replace.

Do note that having an unpatched version would mean no jolly cooperation or pvp as you wouldn't be able to connect to those who are updated.

It's some sort of reference that he could use if he wishes to try and salvage his save.

He could just refer which files he needs to copy over.

Eh. 30 some hours is nothing in the grand scheme of things. But pirates gonna pirate and cheaters gonna cheat. Do what you think you need to do.

as far as i'm aware what you linked is only to change it to a past version, all he should need to post over is his save from the NBGI folder from one account to another.

yea but as he said, it says that his save is corrupted. This usually happens when there is a version mismatch. The link provides a way to revert back into a previous version which i assume the cracked copy is.

fair enough, it also will say corrupted copy if you try to bring a save from one account that isn't yours to one that is, no sharing with friends, so could be an encoding thing.

Alright so when I put those files in to my "might not be steam version" (wink) folder, it basically turned it into the steam version and the save is still corrupted

The moral here is to pay for things outright rather than illegally downloading them.
