[Hammer] Game crashes when opening the map in Garry's mod (prop_static?)
So i am making a map in hammer. But when i try to load the map in Garry's mod, it stops at "Initializing world...", about 1/4 of the loading, but then the game crashes.

So i have tried to find what the problem is, and i found out that deleting all the "prop_static" props worked, but i really need props that aren't movable. So i heard about a limit for how many prop static i can have, but i only had like 5 static props. So i am really sure thats not the problem. So is there an solution to this? I have worked on this map in two months, so i really hope i don't have to trash this.

By the way, here is the whole "timeline" of what i have done to make this map, in case the props might be connected to anything in this:

I started out by making grouped rectangles in sketchup, and then used a converter plugin to convert the sketchup file into a ".vmf" file. After that i opened that .vmf file and added textures. I have met loads of errors, like t-junction errors, portal errors and more stuffs like that, but they are fixed. Now when i went over to adding props, a new error appeared. And yes, before i added the props i were able to play on the map in garrys mod. So most likely its the props, or the connection between props and something else.

When you compile the map there is a compile log. please copy the log and paste it here, so we can help you ^_-

By the way, i kind of fixed the problem by changing "prop_static" to "prop_dynamic_overwrite", which worked perfectly. I think the prop acts in the same way as what i need it to, and i am able to open the map. But still, a bug is a bug, and im still interested in what to do about it and what caused it ;)

It sounds like you were using the wrong type for the prop. Using an _overwrite is a temporary solution but it will also eat more ent data then necessary. In the model browser it should tell you what kind of prop the model is.

Do not use TF2 to compile your map.
TF2 got an update around Sep-Oct that added lightmapping on prop_statics. Gmod still does not support it.

I have to use TF2, since none of the other Source SDK's works. Also i don't have other source games that TF2, Garry's mod and Portal 2. Also none of the Source SDK that are in steam as a tool program, is not working either. But TF2 worked for some reason. But thanks ;)

An update for Gmod has been released.....I've had problems with it as well, so this could fix the problem.....try your map now and tell me what happens...if you could?

Yeah don't use TF2, try installing Source SDK Base 2013 MP and running it's hammer (located at Steam/SteamApps/common/Source SDK Base VERSION/bin/hammer.exe).

Sorry I know this post is old.

I also have this problem but in the log there are no errors (I fixed them), I gave my friend the map and it works perfectly fine and I can join it too with no problems.
The only problem is me starting the map and trying to test to out for myself, please anyone help me out.
