Source Engine Measurements
So I looked at the Dimensions page on VDC and based on the information provided there it would seem that 1 meter would be around 52.46 Hammer Units. Based on that info it would seem that all the characters in HL2 are midgets, with an average height of around 1.37 meters. This seems a bit nonsensical. Why would valve design their games based on incorrect values? Unless the VDC is providing incorrect measurement relationships. Does anyone have any clue on whether the information on the VDC is accurate or not?

For what I know, 1 unit in Hammer's grid is = 1 inch. The player is 72 units = 1,82 meters.

Where did you get this info?

A Hammer unit is closer to 0.75 inch, but for simply sake, we keep it as 1 Hu = 1 Inch

Yes, Valve measurements says 0.75, (btw it's different for each game). But to avoid playing with midgets, I've always considered the unit = 1 inch.

Ok, thanks for the useful info. I guess at the end of the day if you are planing on developing a game on Source its up to you to decide which measurement to use. :)

I think Sandwich knows this page, his question is: why the heights of rooms, doors and windows are realistic, considering 1 unit = 0.75 inches, while the players are only 54 inches tall? Maybe the reason is connected to the perspective of the game?
