Is this serious? Jaskier in English is called "Dandelion"? WTF?
As a reader of the books (and a huge fan of Jaskier) this bothers me a lot.

First, Jaskier means buttercup. Second, names shouldn't be translated.

As a matter of fact,

https://pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jaskier

They changed it to Dandelion in lieu of the fact that his name would have been Buttercup if it was directly translated to English. It could have been worse John... A lot worse.

They could just let it be Jaskier, like French, Portuguese or Spanish translations.

Yeah, but you're fussing over a man who's named after a petite yellow flower regardless of language. Carry on, I guess.

Yeah, but after reading "Jaskier" in 7 books, now is really weird to hear "Dandelion" instead. Imagine that you have to play a Batman game with the Latin American translation, where they say "El Guasón" instead of "The Joker".

The translation that I have calls him Dandelion too. Jaskier does sound cool, but Dandelion isn't supposed to be taken seriously so it fits.

Well, in the books at least he have his serious (even wise) moments and happens to be a complex and profound character with an interesting evolution. Idk about the game, haven't played much.

First time I played the game I thought "Oh, Dandelion might be another bard, I will wait for Jaskier to come up". Stupid me. Now that you mention it, that change of name probably will bother any reader of the books who starts playing the games.

I had to google it to be sure it was the same character

Not to necro a dead thread, but I've been having a wonderful time listening to the audiobooks on my commute, and at the worst, he's called "Dundillion" (at least phonetically), and about half of the time, it's actually Dandelion. So take you pick.
Kiryu Aug 30, 2016 @ 3:07am
I don't understand your point.
Sirius Aug 30, 2016 @ 10:25am
He says Jaskier is called Dandelion also in the audiobook, I guess... Maybe there's more than one english version (in spanish is Jaskier, because Dandelion wouldn't make any sense... Idk about other languages)
Kiryu Aug 30, 2016 @ 10:43am
But I already guessed that. I said "in english" not "in the game" because I supose the books and games translation are the same.
