Berengar's secret: Clay pits

I'm currently on a quest of investigating Clay pits to find any info about Berengar, and, while it shows me it can be completed right away, I can't seem to find anything Berengar related near the pits. I've seen someone saying that there should be two corpses nearby - do I just complete the rest of the quests I have for them to appear?

The corpses are on the far side of the pit by the swamp, make sure you're searching properly? I did it at the same time as the Drowner quest so maybe there is some kind of trigger, but they were pretty obvious after I cleared the pit.

Are object nameplates set to always on for your game? It is easier/faster to locate "clues" in the game that way. If you don't see corpses just try continuing the other active quests until you reach the Scoia'tael vs Order of Flaming Rose quest crossroad.

Made it through the bank heist, but still no corpses. Object names are turned on.

is it possible to just ignore the quest and find the guy later?

So if you set your quest log to show all quest stages (not just active one), your latest phase is still "Clay pits"? Or has it already advanced to "Berengar's Death"?

The next available phase in chapter 2 is "Berengar is Alive!", after you're given post-battle info on finishing the [Force Reconn] mission quest for either the Scoia'thael or Order.

• Have you spoken to Vaska and accepted the job of clearing the Clay Pits of drowners? (Otherwise the two corpses will not be marked as quest-relevant.)
  
  
• Do (or did) you use any cheats, mods, the savegame editor etc. ?

I talked to Vaska and bought the game from Steam, I don't use cheats.

I see. But did you also eliminate the drowners and get to the place shown in the video? Did you then receive the reward from Vaska, which is not the one originally negotiated, but one that is essential for reaching Chapter 3?

If so, you don't need to worry about the missing corpses. They are the dispensable part of the "Berengar's Secret" quest, which spans the first four or five chapters - depending on how you play. The information that Geralt reads from the corpses later turns out to be wrong.

The lack of the corpses is extremely unusual, but harmless as long as it is not due to corrupt save games / installation. To be on the safe side, you should check this:
