My fears were proved right. I'm neutral when it comes to gamespot, haven't really read many of their reviews. The problem is they explicitly said that the player is FORCED to use the batmobile/tank for a big chunk of the game.
That's a gamebreaker for me. Freedom is a must in this type of game. Batman is about gliding round the city and doing as you please, not poncing round in the batmobile blowing up stuff for hours. That stuff is mind numbing! The player should be able to choose whether they want to use the batmobile on missions or not. That is a must in this type of game.
All these theories about the score, i think 99% of the reason it got an average score is down to the forced car combat. end of story. Thank god someone was honest and told us about forced gameplay mechanics should be more the vibe on this thread i think.
Not trying to upset anyone, just my two cents. I know quite a few people feel the same way. It's very dissapointing. Player freedom is everything.
But how is her brother locked in the cage too lol?
And now i have a new issue with it. Let me start by saying i skimmed the review the first time to avoid spoliers and having read it i take back a few things i have said.
So lets break this down. Lets aussme that each complaint deducts a point so starting at 10/10
He feels that the game forces the batmoblie on you and that the combat sections with it are tedius- ok fine no problem there he dident like it. so thats us down to 9/10
He feels that the story is predictable and a bit ham fisted. The big revel of the arkham knight failed to impress.- yep ok so far nothing wrong here. 8/10
The game refines the fundementals without bringing much new and is treading old ground.- this is my new issue looking at the gamespot reviews for call of duty advanced warfare and call of duty ghosts they gave both an 8. advanced warfare i could maybe get but ghosts? its considerd the worst in the series by a very large margin.
Its the same thing IGN did with arkham origins saying that it was too similer to arkham city giving it a 7/10 and then giveing that years call of duty a 9/10.
If your going to give a game series a free pass on not inovating at all then you give other game series the same courtesy or you dont give any game a free pass at all which is what i would prefer.
however with that last compliant we do indeed arrive at 7/10 as stupid and unfair a complaint i think it is condidering the score they gave call of duty.
Every game review you will ever read will be biased (even the ones you agree with), because every human's perception is relitive. Life is relitive.
*END OF NEWS FLASH*
However maybe i wouldent have an issue with it if it dident happen every year. It doesent matter what website or reviewer is doing it CoD on the mainstream sites at least always scores high even when other people like Angry joe and Totalbiscuit point out such glareing obvious flaws that should by all accounts have resulted in a much lower score.
The problem with Gamespot is too often they'll go against the grain of the trend and pound on a game, seemingly just because liking the game is too hip and mainstream.
I'm all for honest reviews and I like reading both sides of a debate. But when it comes to Gamespot I've learned to not take their critical opinions very seriously. Same with IGN, but on the other end of the spectrum. Take the average of the IGN and Gamespot review and you probably have a far more accurate score.
sorry, I should've used marg as my first example to be more clear
Edit: Also Jamie lannister was actually locked in a cage at one point during this season, but just briefly (when he was captured in dorne--sp?-- trying to rescue his niece)
Yup , ignore it, pay no attention to the guy behind the curtain.
