Kotor 2 crashes after movie cutscenes
When I downloaded kotor 2 from steam, I downloaded the TSLRCM and KSE (kotor savegame editor). When I started the game, it would crash after the lucas arts logo would display before the main menu appeared. I uninstalled and reinstalled the game and had the same problem.

I found multiple sources that recommended to try making the following changes to the swkotor2.ini file:
Disable Vertex Buffer Objects=1
Fullscreen=0,
Allow Windowed Mode=1

After making these adjustments, the game would progress to the Obsidian logo after i launched the game but it would crash following that scene right before the main menu. I tried running the game from the .exe file and running it in Windows XP SP3 Compatibility mode.

I then found another source that recommended deleting the intro videos to the game to resolve the game crash issue. Here is my source: http://pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Star_Wars:_Knights_of_the_Old_Republic_II_%E2%80%93_The_Sith_Lords#Skip_intro_videos

I deleted the following files: leclogo.bik, ObsidianEnt.bik, and Legal.bik. After I deleted them, the game started working. I was able to create my character and play the prologue.

When I beat or skipped the prologue, the game would crash immediately following the cut-scene of the ebon hawk docking into Peragus. I believe i deleted another bik file for that scene but i looked into my recycle bin and i didn't see it there. I got the game working and used the kse to edit the game saves for fun. When I made it outside the mining facility in the spacesuit and triggered the cutscene of the harbinger docking with peragus, the game crashed when the cutscene ended.

It seems that whenever the game concludes a cutscene, the game crashes. Moreover, when I delete the cutscene file, the game continues fine and skips the cutscene.

Does anyone have any suggestions how to fix this?

Although, you may not have to do anything with the video files now, as the update from Aspyr has apparently fixed the Frame Buffer Effects bug (which made the game crash when a video played).
Before the update, though, you could fix the issue by turning off the Frame Effect Buffer.

But the AllowWindowedMode=1 and Fullscreen=0 fixes are good suggestions for the "crashing after the Obsidian Logo vanishes" bug (which still seems to be an issue for a number of users. Hopefully they can fix that problem soon, as well).

I solved the issue on my win7 PC in the 'compatibility' tab of the properties for swkotor2.exe.
I chose to run the program in compatibility mode for Win XP SP3, with three settings enabled:
Disable Visual Themes,
Disable Desktop Composition,
Disable display scaling on high DPI settings.

The issue of losing input control after the bik movies play never happened to me again.

If it works for you, you're welcome.

Edit: Remember these options. They have worked on a number of older games with video-related issues in Win7 and later.

Mind if I ask that where did you find the three settings?

Right click the executable file and select properties. It’s in the compatibility tab.
