Why do redcoats attack me when the courier appears?
I'm still early on in the game, so I'm playing Haytham right now. I've been spending some time walking around Boston, and I've notcied that I get attacked for doing absolutely nothing.

Whenever that guy with the red moneybag icon (the courier) appears, the redcoats immediately turn on me.

One time I saw the courier and decided to be proactive, so I hid in some hay BEFORE any soldiers appeared and decided I was a threat simply for existing.

That didn't work, however, because a British officer walked his troops right up to the hay pile I was in and started sticking his sword into the hay to flush me out. He even started saying things like, "I know he's here!"

Why are they going after me when it seems to be the courier that's triggering the issue? Shouldn't they chase after him?

Probably a bug, I experienced something similar with viewpoints. I would mark a viewpoint in New York then when I arrive to the base of the structure the red coats would attack me, even when I was incognito. :meatytears:

Well, whenever I see the courier on the map, I run like hell and try to make it to the top of a synchronization tower or go into a tavern/general store.

It's a bit ridiculous, because the moment the courier the appears anywhere within the area I am (he doesn't even need to be near me) the redcoats go on full alert and act like I just started murdering people in the street.

Just don't go high profile while you are near the courier and soldiers at the same time and you should be fine. If you want to chase him without triggering every patrol i recommend getting a horse and follow him (horse in low profile is still faster than courier) to some secluded place, then you can do wathever you want with him. :) However if you kill them they seem to spawn again soon.

And for the officer searching the hay - it's part of their normal patrol route in this game.

Me neither! Now I don't have to panic if guards are near and that damned courier rounds the corner. :D
