Tried that. It just gives me this error:
Execution could not continue.
Script error, "bd21rc1fix.pk3:cvarinfo" line 1:
cvar 'bd_bloodamount' already exists
Is there also a way to run them via an executable instead of dragging and dropping? I want to add that executable to Steam as a shortcut.
2) Unpack it anywhere (for example "C:\GZDoom").
3) Put "doom2.wad" into GZDoom folder and run gzdoom once to create config file (gzdoom.ini).
4) Download latest Brutal Doom (https://www.moddb.com/mods/brutal-doom/downloads/brutal-doom-v21-beta) and Extermination Day (https://www.patreon.com/posts/extermination-09-15793044).
5) Put "bd21RC3.pk3" and "edaytestdec09.pk3" into GZDoom folder.
6) Make a copy of the original gzdoom.ini config file and rename it ("eday.ini" for example).
7) Open "eday.ini" with Wordpad and under [Global.Autoload] add the following:
Path=$PROGDIR/bd21RC3.pk3
Path=$PROGDIR/edaytestdec09.pk3
So it will look like:
[Global.Autoload]
Path=$PROGDIR/bd21RC3.pk3
Path=$PROGDIR/edaytestdec09.pk3
8) Create shortcut for gzdoom.exe, right click it and select "properties".
9) In the "Target" field add "-iwad doom2.wad -config eday.ini" (without quotes), so it will look like this : "C:\GZDoom\gzdoom.exe" -iwad doom2.wad -config eday.ini
10) Done. You can now play Extermination Day ;)
When editing eday.ini did you just click save? if so it would have saved it as a separate text file, instead you need to click save as and make sure it is saving as eday.ini not eday.txt.
This has been fixed for a while now, sorry. The soluation was marked.
I am hoping you still have this thread set to have notifications.
I randomly stumbled upon a play through of Extermination Day via Youtube and chose to install Brutal Doom all over again. I am currently plaything through it (map15 twisted neighborhood) and throughout the entire course of this I have had insane drops in fps here and there but managed to keep playing through it. I tweaked a TON of settings and am still find myself having issues which doesn't really make sense on what could be causing it now since I still run brand new high demand games at max settings.
Anyway, my question is if you had similar dives in performance during your Extermination Day campaign and what your fix was if you had any. Brutal Doom runs pretty smoothly and I was able to test it with nuts.wad and maps all of the Doom 2 story but for the life of me I have no idea what is causing these dips.
I think I had dips now and then too, but if I remember right, they were at their worst in the first or second Hell level, where you climb the castle and make your way to the Egg Dragoon/Super Cyberdemon tower. I think it's a combination of map size, amount of sprites and the janitor setting being off that contributes to it, but that's just a guess. The janitor has to be on for me in both Extermination Day (full game) and Brutal Doom 2 vanilla in the remastered Icon of Sin boss, as turning it off makes the game freeze and crash when Baphomet dies instead of loading the final text crawl.
Simply turning it on at that point isn't enough as the save file will still be gubbed: to make it through without those crashes you need to turn on the janitor and start a new game.
Maybe it's due to me running it on 2013 hardware or id Tech 1 even with GZ Doom is just that old that it has trouble rendering such large maps smoothly. Or it's both.
Anyway, aside from what I think it could be for you, I'm not entirely sure as I'm no expert with id Tech 1/GZ Doom. I'm actually trying to learn how to make maps in Aleph One, using Weland. It's maybe slightly less complicated in places in terms of setting up sectors at least, or at least the original Forge/Vulcan engine that Weland and Aleph One are based is.
Either way, I suggest tracking down a Doom engine expert, maybe even Sgt Mark IV himself and ask them, as my knowledge of the Doom engine is too limited.
I hope I was helpful anyway at any rate.
