New Update?
Anyone know what this most recent update does?

This was most likely an update to make the steam version identical to the versions sold on other retailers like gog.

3 files were edited, config.exe, steam_api.dll and yso_win.exe.
yso_win.exe was recompiled to the universal PC version.

Can someone with Windows 7 confirm that the game works for them? It just crashes on launch for me, although the config tool works. I dunno if it's related to the patch or not, although I might be able to downgrade the game on Steam and try the older version.
please verify the integrity of your game data.

Didn't solve it. I've tried older versions of the game from within the last 6 months and they perform the same. I intend to keep downloading and testing older versions to see if there's a change that broke it, or if it is just my PC for whatever reason.
try moving the save data folder and see if your config is corrupted, you can find it at Steam folder/userdata/userID/207350/remote

You can try removing the Galaxy.dll file and see if that helps, but other than that, I've no clue unless your video codecs are messed up (in which cases disabling the movies my help).

It's the movie playback that's causing it, and disabling them bypasses the issue. I've also recreated the issue going back to the last version from 2015 as well, to guarantee it wasn't something introduced along with the xvid.dll file, so clearly something is amiss on my Windows 7.

I'll see if I can figure it out. I keep away from codec packs for this entire reason, and from what I can tell all DirectShow related filters are configured to Microsoft's as they should be. WMV also plays the intros just fine, and I shouldn't be missing the Windows Media Foundation package either.

I'd say to try installing XviD direct from its official site and see if that makes a difference.
Otherwise an MPEG decoder may be hooking the game and interfering. (Such as DVD software)

Solved the issue partially by deregistering three DirectShow filters (LAV) using DXVA Checker[bluesky23.yukishigure.com] that no longer remained on the system. The game still doesn't play them, but it doesn't crash any longer and instead only skips to the main menu directly instead.

God, I hate troubleshooting filter related issues.

Installing XVID from the official site just reintroduced the issue again with the crash. >_<

Ah, ♥♥♥♥ it. I dualboot along with Windows 10 on this system, and it works just fine on Windows 10 so let's ignore the issue entirely. I'll just have to reinstall Windows 7 when I get the chance.
