Continue without saving?

I've been playing SR4 quite a bit lately, and tonight I log into Steam to play. I get to the main menu and I click "continue" as I've done numerous times before this.

Immediately I get a warning message saying the following: "Continue without Saving? You don't have any free save game slots."

I've looked up information about this and the few bits and pieces I can find relate to starting a new game, not continuing one.

A lot of people also suggested rebooting the Steam client, which I did, but it didn't solve the problem. I also checked to make sure Steam Cloud is turned on for SR4 and it is.

So now I don't know what to do. Obviously, I need to be able to save my game, but at this point I'm not even sure if my saved games will be there!

Please don't tell me to start over. That's not an acceptable option for me, not the least of which is because this same problem could happen again!

If anyone knows of something I can do to fix this, I'd really appreciate the help.

Okay, I figured out the problem.

Apparently I need to click "Campaign" and then select "Load Game" in order to play.

I used to be able to simply click "Continue," but for whatever reason SR4 has decided that's no longer possible.

that might be an issue with the cloud save feature.
also for SR4 local saves:
you have a lot of save slots but they're not unlimited
