How to "downgrade" to the pre-Epic version
Hey everyone,
I've been having issues with the game ever since it updated itself to the Re-Elected patch, so after meddling around with Steam for a bit, I managed to downgrade the game to its pre Re-Elected version, without the Epic Games ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, finally making it work again (at least, for me).
Here's my guide explaining how to do it. Workshop and non-Workshop mods work flawlessly alongside DLCs. Hope it works for you all.

for those running linux binary instead of proton you need 206426 instead of 206422
so " download_depot 206420 206426 641706767085429081 " -https://steamdb.info/depot/206426/

correction you just need the first download from the guide for linux binary if its crashing after the update.

Sorry, I don't own Linux, that's why I didn't include it in the guide. I'll update it right away.

no worries i didn't expect you to know how to solve linux which is why i posted my comment on the fix for the client crashing after the update on dec 8 and your solution was quite helpful i had only used this method with skyrim and forgot about it till now.

wow this is great! i hope it gets officially fixed tho

kudos there is also another method
https://steamcommunity.com/app/206420/discussions/0/3721691844094199738/
which has been used for awhile now, replacing the new version of files with old
it had to be done with dungeonland before, due to update breaking fullgame dlc
also this person explains how to halt steam from updating the files if it trys too

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2136436623
guide gives the idea on replacing files with new to old which should work
but like in the thread i mentioned, would need to still offline mode and disable it from updating as well as read only the update manifest.
offline mode achivements still work tested, i never updated mine and kept the original files as is

hopefully they dont remove the old files from the steam database

Thanks for the info. But how does one stop Steam from automatically updating to the Re-Elected version again?
Batata Dec 10, 2022 @ 9:16am
Once you downgrade you'll be fine. However, Steam will always try to update the game once a new update comes out; the best way to prevent this is to set your appmanifest file to read only. This post explains it quite well, check it out: https://steamcommunity.com/app/206420/discussions/0/3721691844094199738/

One More Thing!
As an Australian, the /204622 depot would fail, with a 'missing license for depots 206422' error.
A little digging found depot /204625 which worked fine.
Game started up, loaded into game, new game okay. Just as it was before the update.
(New update won't even start on my old Windows 7 machine.):steamsalty:

Does using the legacy version under beta options not work?
Zerachan Dec 10, 2022 @ 3:38pm
As reported just about everywhere already, the betatab "legacy" version is just the exact same re-elected as live version.

The linux version been broken for long time it only worked with proton, hopefuly they make an actual good port this time.

It must not be everywhere I've looked then and I don't want to install epic to bother finding out, I'll just only use my drm free humble bundle version now.

I highly doubt that, since they can't handle even basic things with windows version of the game.

Sadly, no. It's the exact same as the Re-Elected version, either by accident or on purpose.

I did not see this topic, otherwise I would not have made my own. Good job man!

I wonder if there is a way to do this for Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Edition. Capcom at one point released the international version for everyone, but pulled it. That version basically included NA and JP versions of all of the games.
