Accidental Guard Death
I have confirmed that if a guard throws a grenade at me and accidentally kills himself with it, it doesn't count as a kill.

Thats good to know, they do that alot, but then again, I wouldn't throw a grenade at someone standing 50 feet above me...

It's still a lottery when it comes to accidental deaths. Some don't count, but some seem to count so it's usually better to avoid them whatsoever. The only deaths that don't at all count are animal deaths, on either campaign. The rest are best avoided.

Are you sure that animal deaths dont count? As in, the Wolf Hounds the Overseers use? Because in one of my play throughs, earlier on, I was doing a no kills play through, and I killed one of the dogs in the Kennel. Got marked as a hostile kill. Replayed from a save that I made close to before I went it, and play the rest of the mission again without killing them only sleep darting them, and it was fine... I mean, then again, something else could have happened, for example an unconscious overseer could have fallen off the the table I layed him on and then the body being on the floor could have caused a hoard of ratas to spawn in the area, and them munching on him could have killed him, and that could have been the hostile kill, but I don't know. It just really seems like killing the dogs in the main storyline will count as a kill...

I just completed this mission again as part of my 15th play through, so I think I'm going to replay the entire mission, not touch anyone, and only kill the dogs to see if it does indeed count or not. I'll post my findings, maybe record it and post a video.

Yeah, as far as I recall it doesn't count.

I can assure you that the devil dogs in Brighmore don't count, since I played through that just last week, but it's been several months since I played the main campaign, so I might be wrong regarding the regular dogs.

I can absolutely confirm that accidental deaths, even accidental deaths that you encourage doesn't count against you as a kill, and doesn't go against Chaos. I've done it many times.. Here are the things that you can do to have guards or someone killed that won't count as a kill against you...

1. When guards are near by, using Bolts or Incendiary Bolts, and firing them at the ground or at a metal object near River Krusts, which causes the guards to run to where the shot landed, and then all be killed by the River Krusts... - During the Sokolov Mission on Kaldwin's Bridge. I do this every time I do a play through, and have never have it marked against me.

2. Earlier on in the Sokolov Mission, when Slackjaw's men are snooping around the corner behind a gate at the point just before the bridge. Use Bolts to fire at the metal fence that they are snooping behind, and the guards will come over and they will all battle. I've even had it to where they all wind up killing each other, because the thugs win against the guard, but then they run toward the Arc Pylon and are killed by it... - I did this during the same play through that I did the above example in, didn't count as a kill.

3. Using Possession II on someone, walking to the edge of a high place, or to the edge of the water, and either right clicking to end the possession, or letting it time out, and then having them fall off the high place or into the water. This is because whenever you possess someone, and the possession ends, Corvo will stay where he was/the person possessed was at the time the possession ends, and the person that was possessed will be placed in front of Corvo. - Did this a number of times during the same play through during the same mission, didn't count as a kill.

4. Letting a Guard or Overseer with a gun take aim at you, and then just as they pull the trigger, use Bend Time II (or Stop Time), and to stop time, and then use Possession II to possess them and walk them into the path of their bullet, and end the possesson. They are killed by their own gunshot. - Also did this during the same play through as the above, didn't count against me.

These are just a few examples of things you can use to your advantage to kill guards or anyone else, and not have it affect your stats in any way. Other than obviously with a couple of them they will indeed alert on you, which means you wont get Ghost, but useful if you don't care about Ghost and just wanna have some fun. There are many many more things you can do that will result in the deaths of others and won't count as kills against you, but I figured I would save everyone from a wall of text larger than this on already is..

I'm going to be making a video shortly, featuring some of these moves, especially the River Krust death, because it's hilarious. So others will know how to do these things and have some fun themselves.

I know for sure that the dogs (whatever they are called) in Brigmore Witches don't count. Just found that out for myself not long ago. I assume it's because they are already dead, but simply brought to life, or animated via magic.

I always thought animals simply don't count. After all, you can also kill rats and river krusts without either counting.

Well rats are rats.. And River Krusts are bernacles. Now, I think it's because dogs can alert on you, and also in turn, alert others to you... I just think that the death hounds in Brigmore Witches don't count because they are already dead. But who knows. I may be entirely wrong. And if I am, I'll be happy, because that means I won't have to waste sleep darts on those two damn dogs in the Kennel just to get the money pouch and a spool of copper wire. lol

I died as a rat in a vent, that was good for laughs...
MikePlaysIt May 18, 2014 @ 12:59pm
Yeah. That's a weird experience. Running out of time inside a vent. lol

Not as bad as getting stomped on by one of the hookers in the golden cat....
I've been killing all the dogs on my "no kill" playthrough and it hasn't counted against me. (I looked it up first). And yes, sometimes bodies like to slide off of things. I was a bit worried about it when I had to stack 3 thugs on top of each other on a narrow piece of furniture. Luckily after some arranging they all fit nicely. Anyone who walked in would think they were having "a lot" of fun.

Wish you caould attack people if you possessed a wolfhound...that would be fun

What about security? is it counted against me if I hack every security device and just watch the fireworks?

Considering it is counted against you if you put an unconscious body on a slope and it falls to its death, I would bet it will count against you if you purposefully repurpose a trap to attack its owner.
