This is a nice DLC, but it's not the best by far. Some trials are really fun and replayable and they show the potential that the original game could have, which is quite saddening in a way. Though some trials are the exact opposite. The Expert Burglar is badly-designed, but mostly because stealth in Dishonored is quite mediocre, yet Normal Burglar is pretty fun, though it still has a few issues, specifically concerning magic powers and looting. Either way, once you learn the mechanics, every trial can be fun and engaging.
Bonus points for making achievement hunters suffer, always a pleasure to see.

I just got the 100% completion 2 days ago and is true that the Trials DLC expose some of the issues with the mechanics (apart for some inconsistencies), but for the most part I enjoyed the challenges.
Regarding the achievements, some where indeed very tricky, i search on youtube for some guides beforehand (having the experience of Bioshock Infinite, which also have a DLC with challenging achievements), and saw people very annoyed like you, BUT I have to say they are very doable, like:

- By my hand alone: a lot of people complain about this one because you have to kill every enemy by yourself, but they could also kill each other, ruining the achievement. I was kinda concerned about this one but literally got it first try just following some of the recomendations, just be fast and use freeze time each round when you got it.

- Daredevil: also a lot of people complain about this one because is partly RNG, but I kinda enjoyed it. Just follow one guide that show how to do the first 2 jumps, and then just play it normally, since the mana is infinite, you can go very fast and get the achievement in not so much tries.

- Headhunter: this one as I see it is the really tricky one because the game does not register headshots that well sometimes, but with enough tries and using the exploit to bypass the final room is doable.

There´s also some tricks or exploits to make the challenges easier, but I didn´t need any of them apart for the one at Headhunter, I would say that if you play first the challenges for fun, and then later go for the achievements it will be much better than to just go for the achievements.

The DLC is fine for what it is. The achievements are a seperate issue in my opinion. If it didn't have any people wouldn't hate it as much I think.

If this dlc didnt have achievements id quite like it, the fact it does made 100% grind damn near impossible, the one where you have to drop kill the princess from 600ft high or whatever was the worst because id keep bouncing off her head, it just never worked well, got lucky by capping fps

note: i make this discussion while i'm frustating after i failed to get achievements, and i'm sorry for my language.

Edit: i mean, yeah. if this dlc doesn't have achievements, i would enjoy this dlc and most people hate it because the some of achievements really hard to get
