Running Slow??!?
Anyone have any ideas on how to make ck 2 run better on certains speeds say 3 and up? I know its not my pc. It has a Amd A8-7600 processor 8gb ram and Radeon R7 graphics card. With stupid windows 8.1 :(

P.s Turning off some dlc did help very little

If you have it on the "terrain" map mode, turn it to any of the colored map modes - the trees in the landscape chew up a lot of graphics power.

There's also a mod in the workshop to make the game map flat, which makes things run quite a bit faster, as well.

Unfortuantely, since Rajas was introduced, there's more characters on the map using up resources for their AI, so you have a slower game when you try to run it at high speed.

Find your settings.txt file in your game folder (on windows it will be in my documents\paradox interactive\crusader kings ii) Once you're there have a crack at turning all these settings to no:

draw_trees=no draw_sky=no draw_bloom=no draw_hires_terrain=no draw_citysprawl=no

When CK2 is running You can also try opening up the task manager, finding CK2 in the processes list and right clicking it. From there, go to details and it will take you to the ck2game.exe. Right-click that and set priority to high instead of normal. Don't know whether that saves or not so you might have to double check if that works each time you load up.

Aside from that you can try the [VS]Plain Map mod as mentioned above which might open up slightly more memory for you. Or you can register an account and your CKII code on the Paradox forums to access tech support where, if nothing else, the devs there will help double check that everything on your system is as up-to-date and tip-top as it can be.

Ok thanks so much. I've checked when playing the task manager and even with Ck 2 running its only at 39% memory usage. I'll try those out hopefully it helps.

I'm in the same case. A8 16Gb RAM but my GPU is older. I played fine from Old Gods start since 1100, then, with half of Europe conquered begins my torment and pain. With speed 5 one day spends 3 secs to 1 minute. Sometimes all seems don't work for a while. I don't want to leave the game now in 1304 but is already unplayable...
No, no - unless you have a very powerfull system you'll get slowdowns on speeds above 3. I have a 6 core 3.9ghz amd processor, 12 gigs of ram and a 2gb asus r9 270x and I have the same problem. Speed 4 is somewhat bearable but 5 is actually slower than 4. And I can compare it to EUIV wich is smooth as butter. Alas Paradox pushed the game engine too much with Rajas. Last patch made things bearable but truth is the game will always be too taxing on the cpu. I think they'll try to further optimize the game in following patches but I think that perhaps CKIII might be rising on the horizon in an year or so.
