I don't get this game.
Coming from EUIV I thought adapting to this wouldn't be an issue. I guess I was wrong. I just don't get it. Can anyone direct me to great guides/youtube video's etc. Thanks.

Check out Arumba. He has loads of LP's that are super useful, and the Youtuber-Succession LP is fantastic for newcomers.

Arumba's channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/arumba07

Yeah, I'd say Arumba is your best bet. Go watch his videos, like the one that TeslaCoil linked.

I don't think Arumba is the most popular, Northernlion probably is.

Why I recommend Arumba is that he has deeper understang of almost all Paradox games than any other youtuber, seriously. I've been watching him for over a year now, he actually got me to buy CK2.

Even though it might not be relevent I will say I come from the same conclusion but backwards, I played CK2 and cant quite figure out EU4 more that there are features I dont like but I think its that I dont get the appeal.

Honestly, I think you're better off not watching an LP, but instead reading the wiki. I, personally, generally don't like LPs in general, but I think this game, in particular, has too many mechanics you need to reference to make a purely passive medium with no hyperlinks and only marginal description depth a poor way to learn the game.

The wiki here has a section on the bottom left listing a series of helpful guides that are a good start, and you can look up specific pages as you go along to get a better sense of it: http://www.ckiiwiki.com/

If there's anything that's lacking in those wikis, tell me or someone, and we can probably just edit it, what with being a wiki and all...

The premise is different. You play a dynasty, not a king, nor his heirs nor a country but a dynasty. This is all about politics and inter personal relationships. Guardianship for example is a way to boost someones opinion, but also a way to influence the wards culture and sexual orientation. Culture and religion you say? Yes and not just because of the obvious. Certain cultures give different battletactics for example or laws of succession. So yeah people matter more then tech or borders.

I was playing ck2 a few mins ago with Elder Kings mod which is a great mod. Definently for fans of the Elder Scrolls (Skyrim, Oblivion, Morrowind).

Untill this week I was riding the same train. Watch this lets play. 12-13 episodes in I finally had some grasp on EUIV and I've been thoroughly (finally) enjoying it for the last 2 days.
