Legions mod or something like that?
Just a quick question whether somebody knows of a mod which adds a function to empires, maybe just the roman empire, to raise legions or some other standing army? I'm gonna start up a Byzantine playthrough soon, hoping to rebuild the empire, and was wondering if I could add legions for some extra fun.

You have retinues, which could act as a standing "Legion" if you simply rename them.

Retinues come with the "Legacy of Rome" DLC, wich (if you dont have it yet) is something you might want anyway if you play a byzantine "restore the empire" game, since it adds some more functions to the byzantine empire.

Generally I find that retinues are a bit lacking, although this is likely due to my green-ness to the game rather than any fault of the game itself. Anyadvice on how to utilise em to their full potential? It's just my eventual goal for this playthrough is to rebuild the roman empire and involve a little bit of roleplay, which includes legions.

Once you get your retinues large enough they come in quite handy for a number of things. They are great for crushing rebellions or raiding hosts without having to raise levies. Same for imprisonment - park them on the capital of the vassal you intend to imprison. If he rebels, the siege starts before he can raise his main levy. They also help to keep faction percentages down, cutting back on the number of factions that will actually fire against you.

When the world Stopped Making Sense comes to mind for its special legion merc units.

it pushing the start date back to the fall of the WRE, during the migrational period of europe.
