Stuck on russian choke

There's some split second timing to get out of his choke, but I'm stuck in an endless loop. Tried mouse 1, mouse 2, e, w, a, s, d - nothing seems to get me out of his choke. Any ideas?

Yeah, I had trouble there, if I remember right, the sequence goes somewhat like this;

F
E

Then maybe something else.

Another thing that took me a bit to realize, it only works if you do it in the final circle, if you try it while its still lowering down in the main circle, it'll fail.

NVM. Took me 30 tries (no, I'm not lying). Turns out I had to use the melee (which was not explained at all), which was my (F) key.

I have to admit, the gameplay was pretty good up until that point. I hope they're collecting metrics on this so it can be fixed for future players. There needs to be an explanation of this somewhere or something so we don't have to go through this 10 or 15 times. Thanks for the replies guys!

Man this really helped out, I feel like an idiot for mashing F on the gun part.

It actually appears on screen telling you what you need to press, its located in the same postion as subtitles so it might be hard to spot it.

I didn't see anything. In a later scene where you have to use (F) to kick down some boards, it has the "F" right on the circle-target thing - which was not the case the first time I needed to use it :P Anyway, I'm calling it a night. Have fun playing folks!

I'm stuck at the same place. I can get past the first and second choke but the gun struggle is a fail everytime for me. Am I supposed to mash the A and D keys?

No - you use the "F" key to break away from him at first, then after you get the gun, use the "E" key (after the left and right movement keys) to force the gun upward - left mouse button to shoot him. The timing of the "E" key is critical - don't hold it down and when they say "mash" it's a LOT slower than you'd think - try to hit the key with a constant rhythm, don't just pound on the key.

Getting the timing down is important as you'll need it LOTS of time later on in the game...

The game explains how to use the F key later on... You need to learn to use it before they explain it to you. lol. (Surprised they haven't fixed this yet)

Although it's explained earlier you (as in the player in general) are not, in my opinion, sufficiently prepared (trained) for this.

The hand icon is usually for interaction, when it flashes you're supposed to 'mash' it, this is generally for 'force full' interaction, like opening stuck doors, or pushing a adult's hand away. No need to mash very fast, between 1 and 2 times per second is sufficient, the rythm of a march.

The danger sign, a triangle with an exclamation mark inside it is generally for melee or combat action, like in the dodge-counter skill you will soon learn. It usually has to be timed correctly, and to help the timing two concentric circles are displayed before the danger sign is shown. The outer cicles converges onto the inner cicles and when it touches the inner circle the danger-sign appears and you're supposed to tap the F key. Don't tap to early or you will fail the event, you have a second or so to respond, which is more then enough when you know it is coming. Very rarely you have to mash it (like the E, not too fast).

Oh ok. Yea, when this game was released, there wasn't *any* training at all for the F key until after this scene. Maybe it was just a glitch on my end or something. Thanks for elaborating, Fenke

It took me about 20 deaths to finally read a forum post, lowering difficulty, lower graphics settings temporarily and use the arrow keys instead of A/D on keyboard.

Just saying this worked for me and I was close to tears. Now if it would be more stable I'd be happier. I have W7x64+NvidiaGTX465 and there's supposed to be some driver issues or something.
Also I'd crash every time the game tried to sync with cloud so I took off overlay, took off exclusive fullscreen and its been better. Thing has a memory leak so save often and restart it every 2 hours or so when you play.
